This changed the horror scene forever. Is it worth all the praise?

Everyone here shits on this movie, but you have to give credit where credit is due- They actually went out of their way to have the lines sound like the time period's dialect. Unlike so many other "historical" movies.

It's not horror

I turned it off in the first 15 minutes

it was so boring

Thats keem

by changing horror, you mean ripping off 60s british horror movies? yeah, it did that.

nothing in the movie was groundbreaking. it was very well made. but nothing new.

I loved it, fuck the haters

I have tried to watch this movie 4 times. The first time I watched it late at night causs its a horror, fell asleep. Second time I watched it during/after dinner, fell asleep. I reasoned i was just tired for the first two times given I did watch them in the evening so I tried on two separate occasions to watch this movie in the afternoon, fell asleep both times. This movie is dogshit

you just need to rest

It did not “change the horror scene forever”

Still a good film

It's really good. It didn't change anything though.
The best things about it is the attention to details that went into making the costumes, the sets, the speech patterns, etc.
The fact that it takes it's time to build tension.
The imagery is also really good. Some scenes are disturbingly beautiful.

I liked the crow scene a lot.

Rofl who gives a shit? 60 years later we cant make something vaguely similar? (and it’s definitely not a ripoff lmao)

>This changed the horror scene forever.

what other movies are like it?

You’re all missing the point. The witch didn’t revolutionize anything, it just made horror sophisticated again and ushered in Hereditary and Get Out and the like. It marks the change from the Insidious era of horror. The director didn’t necessarily intend that, but it is the functioning marker between horror eras

Cannibal holocaust, Alien, Blair witch

Zig Forums pretends to hate it because it's popular.
It's a solid folk horror film

>What is folk horror
>What is The Devil Rides Out
>What is The Wicker Man
>What is Viy

>This changed the horror scene forever.
>implying there are movies heavily influenced by it.....not movies preceding it.

I'm not trying to be a dick. I loved The VVitch but I can't think of movies it influenced.

fucking loved this movie

t. 90 years old

It’s a fucking excellent film. It’s not honestly that scary, but it feels authentic. Like an actual folk tale. The dialect is real, the costumes and settings feel real, the subject matter is authentic to the Puritan view of witchcraft. It’s not made to follow or set any modern trends, it’s just a very well made film about a witch in the woods. People say it’s an allegory for feminism or some other retarded nonsense, but I think it’s actually fairly simple and surface level, which is exactly what it should be. It’s a folk tale. Also the atmosphere is creepy and enjoyable, the music is good, and there’s a few solidly disturbing scenes. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time.

dont hate the film, hate your brain.

the dialects arent that accurate honestly, they're all over the place. dad sounds like birmingham, mother sounds like scottish, oldest daughter sounded london drama school doing generic norf accent. Younger kids could not act at all.

satanic propaganda

its comfy

Hagazussa
this film needs more love, its as good as the Witch

I am a notoriously sleepy person you may be right.

Try watching it right after your afternoon nap grandpa.

>This changed the horror scene forever.

It really didn't. I can't think of any movie that obviously took inspiration from it or tried to subvert it or anything like that.
It's a well-made movie but it's not that influential.

Soi horror garbage for the low testosterone soi males
