Has anyone got subtitles for The Tenth Planet? The audio quality's pretty poor it's quite hard to hear what some characters are saying. The only version I've found so far looks like this.

4 really doesn't give a shit about K-9. It's a weirdly specific setting, even for Doctor Who: it's a mediaevel power struggle but for the presence of androids. In the Doctor Who tradition of strapping the victim down and subjecting them to torture or experimentation, Romana gets the short end of the stick and nearly gets sliced open. I like this setting, and the locations sequences are all beatiful, if not particularly alien. Some neat plot-work is being set up here which I'm sure would work perfectly well as a 6-parter, with some lengthy shots indicating this could have been a possiblity. Both Doctor and companion are unconscious by the cliffhanger (doctor does nothing amirite) and for some reason Graft suddenly rearing his ugly head as the theme sounds is surprisingly effective, even though nothing about it is particularly remarkable in terms of stoerytelling. Perhaps the way it is filmed makes it look as if the Doctor is having a nightmarish vision, and this effect is enhanced when you realize that while a villain, Graft was mostly nice and polite during the episode and his evil smirk which suddenly appears changes the whole context. I'm definitely reading too much into this but it's the subtle details that can make or break a serial, especially when there's only a limited amount of plots and settings you can do in 70's who. I'm not getting any routine 70's vibes from this even though nothing is out of the ordinary.
