It was Season 3.
Season 1-2 Jerry is practically a different character than the season 3 version. Like in 1-2 he's still pathetic and cowardly but will still come through in a pinch. Come season 3 all redeeming traits are gone and you're wondering if he's even the same character. Conversely I have a similar S3 complaint for Rick, in that he's all of a sudden too competent. In S1-2 he constantly screws up, is in danger, etc. But in S3 he's always right, never fails, and is almost always revealed to have never been in actual danger.
Thankfully season 4 seems to be walking all that back. I think during season 3 the writers fell for their own hype after the runaway success of the first two seasons and got way up their own ass.
