It's bad, but it's informative. Eyes Wide Shut is a sort of tragic farce, but Ninth Gate sees the occult bullshit as genuinely powerful and darkly seductive. Stupid and delusional, but that's how they see it.

Scanners has some of the most wonderfully pretentious scenes in movie history.
It's horribly underrated in the normie community and in the horror-subculture community i'd say it isn't rated high enough still.
It's literally an amp cranked to 11 and while it's over the top it doesn't come off as silly. You totally buy it in the moment.
It's beautifully shot also, Scanners is as close to Kubrick as Cronenberg ever got when it come to set shots.
