Where did humanity fail to let a small group of elites control every aspect of our lives.

How is POE overcomplicated? You just follow a line.

Couple of thousand years ago

Boomers.

capitalism

I read something from Napoleonic France that most commoners didn't even know who Napoleon was.

He's not wrong though. The thing is, who do you want to sell your product to? Elitist nerds with an IQ of above 110, or the plebeian normie masses, who have no sense of quality and will shit out money at the slightest prompt?

The first is a niche market, and while good to get a game off the ground, terrible in the long wrong as their sense of quality and entitlement will lead to any future DLC or expansions being shat on, while the second is hard to get the momentum on at first, but in the long run you can make millions off (See: Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, League of Legends etc.).

It's very easy when you give pseudo intellectuals a self inflated ego and sense of superiority over their 'enemies' People tend to think their smarter and better than others but all they do is watch television and regurgitate the talking points they hear

pathetic

Most people just want to be left alone to live their lives out in peace so yeah I could see why that was the case.

It occurred exactly when people collectively agreed to believe holocaust happen

Shartmerica """""winning""""" the war.

How does this not depress marketing execs who have these conversations?

>in the long wrong
Run* what the fuck

>depress
You mean encourage?
Instead of having to do hard work for a quality product that will appeal to a minority of elitists, you can do easy work for a shit product that will appeal to the masses, and be rewarded for it.

>Tries to act intelligent
>Makes three mistakes in such a short sentence

yeah but you're making trash for retards

1939

But you're making money.
To make this Zig Forums related, Ricky Gervais and his show Extras deals with this.
Do you sell out for easy money, or stick to your principles and die poor?

You would have to be dumb to voluntarily choose the second, and only a fraction of products ever end up being both quality and having mass appeal.

(((Small group of elites)))

It's not a question of intellect, midwits can grasp it no problem. It's a question of time investment.
PoE and Fallout cater to someone that want to get immersed and invested in a game, normalfags want something they can mess around with for an hour or two a couple of times a week.

I'm not particularly intelligent though and I don't claim to be

You literally can't beat the game the first time you play it because your spec will be so bad

While midwits can grasp it, they can never truly master it. The skill ceiling is too high for that, and the skill floor too high for the retard audience, so you're losing out on money.

You're right though, normies just want something they can insert and mess around and have an even chance, even against the autists who (for whatever reason) spend multiple hours daily in it.

Which is why good games are increasingly hard to come by, especially seeing as everything nowadays starts as early access, so even if you find a gem, chances are slim that it will even survive until full release, let alone actually fulfill the vision they set out with in the first place.

Idiocracy is the quintessential film in this category

Russia won the war. America just stopped them from taking over the rest of Europe.

Fallout is very much a simple game for simple normalfags.

I lost all hope for the Elder Scrolls becoming great again when I saw this. Todd Howard will limit the potential of that series as long as he is in charge.

>how does the prospect of making millions and millions of dollars not depress people who only care about making money

Making a product that appeals to the masses is arguably just as hard as making a product that appeals to a niche, if not harder.

Not really, seeing as you don't need anyone with actual talent on board, and can rely on cheap gimmicks over deep mechanics, it's way easier to produce something that will appeal to a lot of retards. See: Flappy Bird.
