Biggest problem with it was Rey gaining force powers so quickly, but that could have easily been fixed in later movies by giving her weaknesses in other areas. TFA set up some potentially strong characters like we've never seen in SW, especially Finn. They should have done so much more with him. I really don't blame them for playing it safe with the first one it's the second two that revealed they (Kennedy & co) had no plan and was just barely getting through everything by spewing marketing/social buzzwords at Disney execs and the media.
