Hello guys, i'm new to cryptocurrencies and i want to get started. What is the best way to store my ETH if i want to buy some?

print them out and stash them in your wallet

You live in burgerland?
I am assuming you already know where to buy them. Store them in hardware wallet (Ledger or Trezor). For god sake, learn how to use it and keep it secure.

dont have a printer

Metamask

if you're just starting out go with something like this
google ethereum paper wallet for some guides. here's an example one that i had a look at and seems good.

you don't need a printer, you can just write down the important info (don't lose it, dumbass)

if you're going to buy a large amount and/or want more convenience and security, go with a hardware wallet as this guy said

metamask plugin + write down seed phrase

this is adaquate for 99% of Zig Forums (unless you're investing a serious amount)

Is there anything wrong with keeping my stacks on coinbase?

i looked at it now but i have a question, how safe are these things, because i don't see a way to get a private key to this wallet, what if metamask goes offline or something?

not your keys not your coins as they say

your risk is that coinbase becomes insolvent or something like that

Your seedphrase IS your private key

you can get your private key from metamask

If you really need to ask this question just keep your coins on Coinbase. Do some research and buy a hardware wallet when you're ready.

your balance is stored on a distributed network. metamask (or a hardware wallet or whatever else) doesn't have shit to do with your ETH, it's just a way of interacting with the network, which you can always do in a number of other ways if one stops working. you will always need your keys tho to do that.

>what if metamask goes offline or something?
newfags asking basic questions. bullmarket fomo buy signal

myetherwallet.com

Argent.xyz and metamask for interacting with Uniswap

ok i downloaded metamask, shit looks legit and i have my private key, i will probably tattoo it on my leg so i will never forget it. I'm planning to buy 100 chainlinks and monero because i saw McAfee talking about it a lot

careful my brother did this and then lost his leg to the 'rona, 50k linkies gone

uniswap all of that to hex

Metamask is a bad idea. Someone can just go on your browser and send your coins somewhere else. Just make a new wallet on myetherwallet and store the key

Also always keep your 2fa phone number on other peoples phones so if you get identified as a crypto holder it is harder to hack you. My sim got porter last week and almost lost everything. Luckily I have fake Coinbase accounts to spoof the hackers and they used the wrong Coinbase account lmao. I have 500 eth so I need to be careful as fuck.

Hardware wallet.

*sim card got ported. Basically a hacker took control of my phone number remotely and unlocked all my email addresses. The rest is easy once they have control of your email. Doing a SIM card hack is easy as shit, use more than a 2fa on your emails.

wut? Is this actually possible from distance?

On blockfi, they give you 4.5% APR compounded monthly. Got my 32 eth stack on there instead of just collecting dust. Use my promo code for a bonus. blockfi.com ref=c45be0b3

Send it to me. Let me keep that for you with 15% interest a year.

I see that hardware wallets aren't getting much love here as compared to plebbit.

I never really understood the case for them either. They do add a degree of separation from a more directly attackable computer, but what if

- The hardware breaks
- The manufacturer introduced a backdoor intentionally or as a backdoor (I think there was at least one high-profile exploitable vulnerability before)
- The seller of the device introduced a backdoor (happened before on ebay, I think)

Wouldn't the 1st point either add a false sense of security if you don't take hardware failure into account, or add trust issues if there's a cloud backup of some sort? I guess creating a backup paper wallet might be an integrated part of the setup process?

Yes. All the hacker needs is your phones Identifier codes. There are two that identify your SIM card. If your phone online account gets hacked, you’ll need to get a new sim or new phone. It’s really fucked up. I called my phone company and they denied it happened even though I don’t have texts they said I should have. It’s a huge security risk right now that no one is talking about.

>intentionally or as a backdoor
or as a bug*

basically someone walks into a t-mobile store and says they want to transfer your phone number to them. then LaTisha calls ATT and they transfer your real number to them. it's hard to do if you have a PIN on your account. just get a hardware wallet

>hardware failure into account
>or add trust issues if there's a cloud backup of some sort

You don't know jack about how wallets works, do you?

yeah, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

>- The hardware breaks
doesn't matter, you can buy a new one or use your passphrase to load your coins on any other wallet that utilizes bip39 (which is almost all of them)
>- The manufacturer introduced a backdoor intentionally or as a backdoor (I think there was at least one high-profile exploitable vulnerability before)
all of the major hardware wallets such as trezor and ledger are independently audited
>- The seller of the device introduced a backdoor (happened before on ebay, I think)
never buy through ebay and if you do you deserve to get your shit stolen because it's totally possible for some jeet to fuck with the device

Maybe you could try to explain where you got lost, useless shitposter.

hey guys 1 more thing, do you recommend buying link on coinbase or should i try another website?

Just use paper wallet for cold storage

If you need bank wallet use a contract . Argent has the best one

If you need web3 wallet MetaMask is the best way

What do u mean by phone online account?

goybase is fine, they supposedly block people's accounts sometimes but i guess it's rare
binance and crypto.com's app are also good i hear, if you're transferring out to a private wallet they're all pretty fine

You fucking dumb asshole it's backed up with a seed phrase which isn't stored in any cloud and you'd know if you could research anything instead of spout shit from your mouth at every opportunity

> Don't understand how hardware wallet works
I can see that you are poor.

Basically this:

Sprint.com or Verizon.com account. The one used to pay your phone bill. The accounts have your sim identifier on them. Websites and bad apps can also try and scrape the information too. Just use more than 2fa, put your 2fa in your wife’s phone or have a burner that’s disconnected from everything. It’s worth it.
