Why don't college grads just live with their parents for a year after graduation and just put 50-100% of their income into paying their debt off? Am I stupid for having that as my plan? I will graduate with $20k in debt and plan on paying it off in a few months after graduation.

assuming you can find a good paying job near home

Why pay it off when it’s just going to keep growing as a whole?
It’s at 1.6 trillion.
It could go to 5 trillion or 10 trillion. And then it’ll be cancelled at some point

Yeah I tried that they figured out that I have money and started charging me rent. Looks like I'm going to be a prison guard whoopde doo.

Are you white?

Why the fuck would you pay off your debt? Unless there is some absurd interest on it, just keep paying the bare minimum and invest the rest.

That's exactly what I did user. Graduated in August, should hopefully have $35k debt paid off by the end of this year. As the other user before me, just find a decent job close to home. If you do that and get along with your parents well, it's comfy af. If you can, put some money on the side into investments as well.

I was going to but if I have to live here any longer I’m either going to kill my mom or myself and I don’t want to have to do either of those things.

Yes why do you ask?

the borrow is slave to the lender.

i wanna be a prison guard. how did u apply

>having to take on debt to pay for your degree
What's the point in getting a degree if you can't afford it?

I live with my parents and can't find a job that pays more than $15/hr. Also not everyone's parents let them live for free. I have to buy all the groceries and pay $300/mo to live at home.

I may as well move out, but I can't move until I find a job in a different place. Life is gay.

Long term return on investment.

This. Would move home for a year or two. Only good jobs aren't 1000 miles away.

bro theyre using you you have to get out before they get old and you end up taking care of them forever. $300 a month you might as well move to the outskirts of queens and commute to new york and you wont be able to find a job that pays LESS than $15/hr

Better to have cash + invested rather than paying your debt. Fuck the debt, pay it slowly. Write the interest off on your taxes.

Or work as you go. It turned my 4 year degree into a 6 year degree but I picked up a minor, had no debt, and ended college with money in the bank and a handful of jobs and side hustles I had worked up an appreciable wage in until I found my career (which took a year and a half after graduation). I did live with my folks for the first three years of college.

Any parents that even consider asking their kids to pay rent should just fucking die.

All the whitoids will die then

How does 200k debt sound?

>sent from moms basement

besides? You think taking care of them while theyre young is the issue?
Wait til theyre old and their debts transfer.

Or having to put them in assisted living because euthanasia is "immoral" regardless of the patients desires..

Invest in old people and funeral homes and plots once the world is stable. Greatest legal ponzi around, noone isliving forever and noone is taking care of themselves after death.

Dont invest in healthcare, too many non-profit CEOs taking 200k plus per year to receive any money back outside of venture flukes.

invest in death

if he stays at home and pays it off, he can afford it, cant he retard.

Thats a really general point.. Mostly i agree, if you NEED your kids to make a return, youre a fucking retard.

But if youre teaching your kids fiscal resposibility and they are rewarded via opporunities youre creating, then i disagree

Did your parents ever teach you money managment?

Same as starting in any industry.

Youre stupid, training cost money, debt enables you to pay for that with future time.

You spend future time, to become future smart.
Future smart you earns more money, retroactivly pays for dumb you being dumb

apprenticships and entry level are the same, without skills and training theres no good money.

Dumb risk jobs dont really exist anymore. (Unskilled/High pay for dangerous work)

They didn’t teach me directly. I learned from their mistakes. My point is more about the family unit being weaker. I’m other countries it’s completely normal to have multi generational homes.

Boomers think it’s still 1968 and anyone who is still living at home past 17 is just lazy. They’ll kick their kids out or charge them rent defeated the purpose of trying to get ahead

If you are paying rent, what is even the purpose of staying home at that point if it’s not to save money to be in a better place to move somewhere else?

Oh, that explains it.

I think a lot of people go to college to get away from their parents.

because most jobs that don't require a degree in the first world have you living hand to mouth with one disaster being all it takes to destroy your entire life

>Boomers think it’s still 1968 and anyone who is still living at home past 17 is just lazy.
if your parents are boomers you're about 50 years old and need to move the fuck out

>Looks like I'm going to be a prison guard
My dad was a corrections officer for 40ish years. Now he's retired with a fucking huge pension and gets to do whatever he wants whenever he wants. Because of his career, he also influenced me not to grow up to be a pussy.

i got my whole tuition as a gib and i'm white and not even that poor. just don't be a brainlet in highschool and your GPA will get you a full ride
