should I major in Maths or Computer Science?
Should I major in Maths or Computer Science?
Yes
>going to libtard brainwashing camp
Yikes
CS more money.
Double major in Maths/Physics then go into Quantum tech if you actually want to make a difference in society.
School is outdated you're just going to end up another statistic looking for work in a zombie market
Save your money. Teach yourself skills with the internet and start your own business.
>Double major in Maths/Physics then go into Quantum tech if you actually want to make a difference in society.
I did this and I can't get a job. Fuck you.
I'm joining the military to hack
You only actually make money in computer science if you're smart to begin with. Dont believe the shit that says anyone can code, it oversaturated the industry with retards. The reason software engineering has a high pay is because for a long time only very intelligent people got into it and it wasnt advertised to everyone
This. You better hope you can get a management position once you're 30 because there will be another batch of fresh college grads ready to whore out their brains for big tech.
Computer science is slowly becoming modern day blue collar work.
Kek retard. Join the NSA if you wanted to actually do something worthwhile.
Do they take dummies and give them free gibs or do I have to already have knowledge for that
i did ms in cs roomie did PhD in math ask us questions
What do you guys do now? What were your dissertations in?
no dummies allowed
dummies dont make good hackers
Doesn't matter, what's important is that you go to a decent school, otherwise recruiters won't even look at your resume.
My college offers a double major in mathematics and actuarial science/finance (I don’t fucking know I only really care about the math in this post). I like the idea of trying for analyst positions, but I’m fucking terrible at math. Or at least I hate it and never really put much effort into it. Is the double major worth it? Or should I just go back to business admin/accounting/poli sci/ whatever else?
I'm not trying to pay for college how did snowden join the nsa without a degree
I did machine learning, he did quantum topology. I am working on my family's farm, he is doing technical writing for a very obfuscating software company. I'm on the farm for the enjoyment of it, I've developed some things related to chat bots for customer service. my roommate is hoping to build up his software chops to a degree, and would eventually like to be working on quantum computers. he turned down a role at a government facility bc he didn't want to go through clearance. we both earn low six figures, but could do better in other industries. his background is in physics and math from a top tier uni, i did cs at a mid tier uni.
potential is there in the finance industry to make 400k/year.
>Make a difference in society
Why tho
Because that's the purpose of life.
I'm just tryna do 2 years travel round save money get a clearance while working on oscp then do private sector
>potential is there in the finance industry to make 400k/year.
Based. I was planning on going to a top grad program, but said fuck it. I'm tryna get one of those 400k finance jobs. I have published papers in Math Finance journal, so we'll see if I can hack it with a bachelor's.
he was smart
masters will help there but not required. prepared to do stats and make models
Do both if you want to do well, they sync very well with each other. Plus having a math degree shows employers you aren't a fucking retard(90% of comp sci grads)
Math. Anyone who says otherwise is fucking stupid. My uncle got a degree in that from a no name university and was instantly swimming in cash.
Whatever you like more. Both are hard and you really have to love it, but if you're naturally drawn to one of these and enjoy (and already have started) learning one on your own you're set. This is the REAL privilege. Being drawn into one of these fields naturally is one of the best things that can happen to you.
>comp sci
>hard
Unless you are in a top5 university comp sci degrees are a fucking joke
That's true. I mean to the average retard with no background knowledge, computer science is challenging. I don't know why, but I'm also really into it so my perspective is super biased.
Neither. If you are trying to get a job in finance like PE shit then from what I've read if you have a math degree you're just going to get stuck being a quant.
Why don't you just do a jewgle search related to what is relevant to your career path rather than asking extremely broad questions on biz where the median poster is a NEET or zoomie with $800 net worth
Maths if you can handle it.
The hard parts of compsci are the maths parts. Teach yourself programming and build a small github portfolio in your spare time.
Gender studies. Your grandkids will thank you
plan to double major from the start, it wont be hard since CS courses require a lot of math. if I took an extra semester I could have got the math double major, instead just did CS with math minor. also if you do CS make sure to 100% do a internship, helps you get a job way easier. for your electives in CS pick ones that heavily rely on math, and do a grad level course to see if you would like grad school (counts for an undergrad credit).
CS and math professors will drop redpills. just ignore the professors for the other bullshit classes that are required.
Math is way better if you can do it. Any math major can do comp sci, but most comp sci can't do math.
Your math degree will involve programing. The classes wont teach you how to do it they will just expect you to know it. fundamentally learning to program on your own is just way easier than learning advanced math on your own.
both. get into a CS/math program. if you’re going to do CS, must also do math these days.
Fucking hate this joke it's not funny. It's for dumb people.
