Trust Fund Baby

I just learnt that my trust fund will pay out $30k a year starting next year. Assuming I land a job that makes about the same, what should I do with the money?

barely survive?

I live pretty cheaply and am trying to get a job right now that will cover my basic living expenses.

Kek

All in diversified ETFs.

Retire in 10 years.

Explain a bit more if you could.

Sounds like he's telling you to ruin your life as the US Dollar standard is on its way the fuck out, bro. Look at silver and gold, silver and gold. 1971, XAU sits at $35 USD, 1980 it reaches $760 USD

if you need an explanation when someone says "All in diversified ETFs." then you're too retarded to do anything other than throw that money into a savings account, and work a normal job and slave away
i mean you've gotta be retarded to not be able to look anything up when it takes 2 minutes to understand things fully now straight off a search right?

cute girl

two sets of questions:
A(what is the fund? what assets are in the fund? are any notable restrictions/requirments?)
B(who are you?/what do you want?)

without the general answers to both sets of questions we will be of no help

A) I'm not quite sure how the fund functions, just that I won't be able to access the principle until I have 35 or 40 (I', 24 now). I also think that the payout will increase by $2000 every year, but that sounds unrealistic unless my parents are just adding more money to the principle to increase returns.

B) A rich kid who isn't good at anything and who was handed everything. The most I aspire to is having a comfortable bachelor life in SEA somewhere never having to work and being able to travel.

Man it’s fucking bullshit how some people are just handed an easy life. I’m fucking seething. The day you were born, you were already guaranteed financial security. Fuck.

>No ally sheedy basket case gf

No amount of money can fill this hole in my heart.

dude anybody can guarantee themselves financial security provided they were born in a first world nation. tons of trust fund babbys never amount to anything because they use their funds to become loser drug addicts.

fucking retard

What do/did your parents do to earn their money?

someone explain to me what a trust fund is in 10 words or less

Shut the fuck up with your played out optimistic thinking. It’s god damn annoying.

If he pisses his money away, that’s his fault. His daddy will end up giving him more money.

He never had to struggle in his life ever and it’s just pure fucking luck he was born in an upper class family.

Fuck you and your gay “LE HARD WORK BRO LE BOOT STRAPS BRO”. Pussy.

If it makes you feel any better such circumstances have made me feel like anything I do or achieve is meaningless; like there will be an asterisk next to anything I accomplish that will qualify me as 'born rich, not really that big of an achievement'. Therefor, I just want to live an idle life of obscurity.

I won't tell you what my dad does, but I will say there is a good chance he'll be knighted in the near future.

>t. trust fund babby

Yeah it pisses me off how much of a pussy faggot you are who will never take his money and do anything with it. You’ll probably marry some ugly chink whore and become a vegan or some shit. Fuck you faggot.

No on the vegan or marriage part, I don't think. I love my meat and I find marriage to be pointless if you don't plan to have children.

It's pure fucking luck successful people were able guarantee their kids a good life? I am a successful person who came from nothing and it's pure luck my kid was born with a good chance in life instead of poor?

Stop larping faggot. You probably have a middle class tier job and think you’re successful. I can tell you’re young because you haven’t taken the black pill of glass ceilings for 90% of people.

Fair enough.

Learn about buy and hold passive style of investing in marketable securities (stocks, bonds, ETFs) to preserve your payouts and continue to live frugally. As for what to do with your time? If I were in a situation like you I'd go into philanthropic work or work for an NGO. If you have the entrepreneurial gene in you, which it sounds like you don't honestly, go into real estate investing and make a business out of passion project on top of marketable securities investing.

Also, become familiar with the old adage of "Shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves in three generations".

Can someone explain what the creator of this meant with the "Canon"-logo?

ok cool. So here is what you do: put 50% to automatically invest in S&P etfs, put the other 50% into the highest yield saving you can.

Then focus all your worldly and spiritual energy into answering the questions "who am I?" and "what do I want"

When you realize they are the same question (two sides of the same coin) you will be ready to proceed. Don't fuck this up.

A lot of the trust fund kids I met in college were into travel and filled with wanderlust. They liked to globe trot and take pictures of their travels. Simple as.

This is unironically very sage advice.

by this I mean, you need the base. Money is meant to be used, but if you don't have the base money will corrupt and control.

Getting that base if painful and difficult though. Godspeed.

Thanks for the advice. I actually was thinking of getting into real-estate investing with my dad and our grounds-keeper/family handyman but just the thought of spending so much money to start a portfolio filled me with anxiety. And we're in the Northeast US so its not such good pickings anyways.

I really hate I don't have the risk-taking entrepreneurial spirit my father had but maybe the risk-aversion will be useful in preserving the wealth he passes on.

Wealth preservation is more important than wealth creation. Keep your consumption low and let the compounding effect take care of what you already have and will have in the future. Your aversion to risk will help you preserve your hoard. Good luck mate.
