Everything runs on xDai which is the stablecoin in the xDaiChain that is pegged to DAI, when you have your xDai you can then claim the DAI in the ethereum blockchain and the xDai gets burned.
Think ethereum but instead of ether you use xDai. And when you want to use your xDai you move to ethereum or any other smart contract enabled chain.
