It's irrelevant whether it's V1 or V2, if you put enough gas it'll go through or fail, that's it
"recommended" gas price is a meme and can be irrelevant the very next block if some big boys need to put their big boy transactions before yours

recommended by whom? go to ethgasstation.info and pick the FAST option if you want to have a smooth experience. and yeah, liquidity is awful on V2 so far, it should tell you when there is a better price on V1 though. you can also just use an aggregator like 1inch.exchange.

when sharding comes out, this will be instantaneous. it's because ETH is slow, not uniswap
