I think it will be the opposite. The suburbia will die pretty soon. I mean if up to 40% of suburban households will lose their jobs, the housing market will collapse, lots of suburban businesses will close, that will significantly reduce the revenues from real estate and business taxes etc. so the suburban town budgets will shrink and they will have to cut down their public services, etc. So expect power outages, 911 being late, piles of trash, cops underfunded etc. Lots of people are armed, so you see where thats going. Panic, fear, stray dogs everywhere. The infrastructure will collapse eventually. No food in the grocery stores since it won't be profitable to deliver food to suburbia. That will cause the reverse white flight back to the cities closer to the food kitchens and bread lines.

Can't you just make offices (if they're still relevant) in smaller towns? It would be extremely cheap and people would be willing to move, because why the fuck not.
Decentralisation of entertainment would also produce more jobs in the towns.
