Group acceptance is a survival mechanism going back to mankinds beginning. If you weren't accepted by the tribe you'd have no chance of finding a mate, and likely exiled or murdered. Humans have a biological impulse to be accepted in their "tribe", the only difference is that in our current culture we have a tremendous number of tribes we can pick and choose from.

Could be similar to above, want to flex their wealth, nerds who make more money than they need (tech jobs where they earn $150k/year), or they're lonely and think that by paying online, they can get "special attention" from the person, name-recognition, personal/private conversations, elevate their status in the community (someone donating $10,000 will have a high reputation in a stream for example, recognized by the streamer as a paypig) which makes the donator feel more powerful in their own mind, even if everyone actually laughs at them.

I don't really either, I pirate almost everything, don't care about name-brand products, in fact I don't purchase many consumer goods at all and am fairly miserly. I definitely don't buy skins in games, or donate to streamers.

Still though it is what it is, I'd say these urges apply to most "normies" who spend all their income on buying the newest iphone, or constantly buying new clothes, upgrading PC every 12 months, going out with friends for dinner all week, drinks every weekend, etc. these types of people are the norm and are the one's desperately trying to fit in with their chosen tribe.
