I'm so tired of saying this over and over again to people on this board. Diversified portfolios perform very well in altcoin markets, and prevent you from getting BTFO if your project goes south.
If you expect 8 of these to become worthless, and 2 to go parabolic, you have correctly spread out your risk and are in a much better place than people who all-in a few coins. Also, some are left over from 2017 and I never sell at a loss.
I put 70% of my portfolio into high cap coins and the rest in moonshots because I know what's coming with the next altcoin market. LCX alone is a great example, I threw $200 into that in January and it's now up 5x. Relatively low risk for high reward.

Right, however $200 dollar is a minuscule amount even for your smaller portfolio. You made 5x, so $1k. What are your plans for that 1k now? Imagine if you 5x'd that $1k instead of a measly $200? Now do you have to search for another project that will potentially 5x for your profit to be meaningful.
The purpose of crypto is volatility. I understand your strategy of attempting to tame that volatility to your advantage, but the stock market just had a historic crash and you could literally experience better, and more "secure" gains there.

I understand that, that's why I'm slightly diversified myself. But there's just no way you've done enough research on all these coins so why wouldn't you just pick your favourite few that are more of a sure thing rather than throwing darts.

You're assuming that there will be no altcoin market and things will stay the same as they have been for the last 2.5 years.
No one seems to remember the market of 2016-2017, right after the last halving. BTC will go parabolic again and even the shittiest shitcoin will follow BTC (and many will outperform BTC). Buying and HODLing anything within crypto right now is the right move.
Also idgaf about secure gains (locking in, buying/selling at the right time), I just want to manage the risk of random Sir Gay's dumping their shitters on me periodically. I do sometimes sell after extreme pumps and spread out those gains to new projects but I try not to as swing trading has historically not worked for me.
Btw, a $200 investment in XVG in 2017 was worth up to $13k by the end of 2017. This is the sort've moonshot potential that many of the coins in my portfolio hold, but I'm not willing to put all my eggs into one basket. It's also what allowed me to turn a $1200 investment into $32k at it's ATH. Rising tides raise all ships and chances are, at minimum, I will be able to exit the coins I have at buy-in when things start getting crazy.
So:
1) I'm not concerned about any current losses and
2) I'm willing to bet that a few of these projects will make large % gains and
3) I believe it's likely that even my bad picks will eventually go back to the USD price they were at when I bought in due to BTC going parabolic again.
I have done my research on these coins, but as I said above some of them are left over from my 2017 folio. I just don't believe that any amount of research can create a truly "safe" investment, especially in cryptocurrency. There is so much deceit in the community and so many projects that seem like they should moon but never do (and vice-versa). Thus, this strategy.

I hope that clarifies a few things. Obviously I could be wrong about the moonshot stuff, but I have done a LOT of research on this since the last bull run and feel confident in this strategy. I also hedge my bets against myself by having a significant amount in high cap coins.

Yea fair enough man, at least you have some rationale behind the decision. I used to have over 10 coins but it's just too much to manage for me, I think I've done my due diligence on the coins I hold and can personally say they are a safe a bet as you'll get in crypto. Time will tell and as you say, rising tide lifts all ships, buying anything that's not a literal scam can brings gains in this fucked up market.
