I'm okay with this as long as it's opt-in (or you get told at least once to opt-out and whats the purpose), it's nice to support projects you like
However this seems to be yet another scammy issue with Brave, just unfuck Firefox with user.js (or changing shit on about:config) and userChrome, or use GNU IceCat or LibreFox, Brave will sell you out in many underhanded ways

When 3d-party extensions do this, they get removed from Chrome Web Store...

People shit on fucking Brave all the time and I just don't see why. I don't give a shit if the people who use it are able to occasionally make money because I'm using it-- that's completely expected from any service you use that's worth using. The fact people believe this very concept, of being able to profit from the thing you made, is unethical is just pure commie crap. Nothing more. Hell, let's even examine this specific situation: It's a fucking referral code. If you don't want to support the browser you are actively using, put in a different code... It's really that simple.
What I care about is the matter of how it is being done, which is why I do use Brave in spite of these occasional PR hiccups. I was using Jewgle Chrome before. Brave is a major step up from Chrome in terms of not fucking over users, and does have a lot of convenient features. Being able to literally print free money is one of them.
Also... WEIRD observation, but the people who shit on Brave seem to run with the CumLink crowd, which is completely bizarre to me. It's almost like they don't value transparency at all and are constantly looking for something to get angry about.

They could like, just sell the thing instead of underhandedly adding referral links?
