Wealth Simple Trade is fine for that situation and you won't pay trading commissions, unlike with any other broker. When you stop playing around with lunch money or decide to frequently trade US stocks, you'll want to switch to Interactive Brokers or Questrade because you can actually hold USD and won't have to pay a currency transaction fee for each trade.

At least scotiabank is reliable, didn't go down when the other banks routinely did with the crazy volumes during weed bandwagon times (then again, itrade was $25 per commission during that time).

On Questrade you can mash (for free) on the update quote button to get a live quote and bid/ask data. Maybe it doesn't matter to you.
