not only do you need to know all of the daily operations back to front but you are liable if anything goes wrong, you have corporate breathing down your neck, you have to deal with subhuman customers and subhuman employees. When I worked at Walmart I came in once for a 7am shift on a Saturday and the store managers were already there moving a shitload of pallets around by themselves. If anything happens to the store manager at another regional store you need to drive the fuck out there and handle shit, doesn't matter if that means leaving your house at 4 in the morning. It's a stressful place to work

But you're gonna have to climb ranks for about 10 years. And then once you get that position it's like 50 hours a week working. Mostly on your feet.

My friend is assistant manager of a Costco. He makes about 90k a year and gets some benefits. But he is there about 45 hours a week and is on his feet most of the time. Lots of stress and pressure on him.

Not saying it's a bad route, but I wouldn't call it a great career.

Walmart managers don't get any OT, and they're stuck in whatever location they get placed in, doesn't matter if it's Bumblefuck, Ohio. They probably get one week off straight per year and during that week another manager has to cover for them.
