"winning" can still be evading reality, because you can be ignorant to your goals changing. if you refuse to analyze your true needs and desires in your changing circumstances, you can be "winning" through your whole life (as long as you refuse to evaluate your achievements by anything other than your 15-year-old-self's measures) without ever gaining anything of value out of it.
