That is about 37.5k pre tax. Post tax, ehh about 20% taken. That leaves 30k. Rent? Let's be generous. One room only. Nationwide it's 1078 a month. That is basically 13k. 17k left over. food like 200+100utility+100for spending on things you like (netflex of whatever)+gas like 100+150car insurance+400health insurance+100phone = about 1150 a month or 13800. Pretty sure I missed some stuff, but fuck it. Good enough. That's 3200 a year at one of the best case scenarios. In other words, it would take about 4.7 years to pay that off. Fool

Healthcare is an extremely "price discrimination" driven market. Healthcare providers have figured out multiple ways to essentially make it so you always pay as much as you can afford, whether you're rich or poor.

However, the extreme examples (like in this case, a middle-class woman bring charged the upper-class price) are what stand out. You never see an article titled "Middle-aged homeless vet charged $0 for open-heart surgery," even though that's just as common.
