What are your opinions on hardware wallets such as the Ledger Nano X? Why do or don't you use one and why are you too cheap to invest $100 to secure your entire stack?

Ledger it is a piece of shit, i use trezor + the passphrase feature.

why is it a piece of shit?

Ledger works great, has a good interface and is easy to replace. Totally worth the piece of mind knowing people can't just decide to take my eth and run any day of the week cause it's on an exchange

I use ledger nano x. I like it. I use it for my long term hold. I never used a trezor so idk aboutive had paper wallets, and my key almost faded in oblivion once. Be carful about the ink you use.
My Ledger Feels really safe so I recommend a hardware wallet, especially if you own more then 1 btc I’d say.

I dont like the nano x because Bluetooth seems like a bad idea. Nano s and trezor are both acceptable choices. If you aren’t going to move your coins ever a paper wallet is more secure, but the second you type in your private key on any internet connected machine you open yourself up to vulnerabilities. You could use an air-gapped setup and two computers, but thats getting a bit cumbersome. Thats why hardware wallets exist. They are just tiny air-gapped PCs so that your private key never has to touch an internet connected machine.

Ledger is great, got one for myself last week
Ledger Nano S is alright, you don't need X if you have a computer

I got low six figures in crypto on my Ledger and I got the passphrase in cryptosteel in a safety deposit box with my notarized will.

Remember to make sure that should it come to the worst your family can still enjoy your crypto wealth after your death

I accept that the cryptosteel is insecure I'm looking for a better scheme such as a BIP38 encrypted laser engraved cold wallet/s

I just stole all your crypto

Ty for explaining

I don’t get one thing with the Ledger. I understand that BIP39 added the feature for seed phrases but I thought you only needed to enter 4 characters.

Doesn’t ledger make you enter the whole word?

NOOOOOOOOOO, don't steal my life saving

Yes I believe so, at least during setup

Don't trust them. Just like exchanges they can be exploited. I keep my three figure cold storage on a paper wallet in a safe.

Use fucking Safepal and not an expensive as fuck Trezor.

I used Ledger before, but now I just bought a new one. Completely offline, NGRAVE ZERO. www.ngrave.io

Seems really cool and I want to buy one just to look tactical but to be honest, I do not see anyone hacking my trustwallet.

Also, staking seems like it would be more difficult in an offline wallet.

kek did someone really post this somewhere?

Meh I feel like I would either lose this somehow or it would get stolen eventually. I feel better just leaving my coins on various wallets and exchanges like metamask, binance, coinbase and whatever lesser exchanges I might have a random alt on. That way even if one of those gets hacked I still have most of my shit spread out

It's not an offline wallet. One of the advantages is that you can still do frequent transaction with extra layer of physical security. I think staking won't be a problem as I can use Compound just fine. It's compatible with MetaMask.

Yes not sure if troll

Damn, very prepared. I have a quarter million in Link spread out across my Ledger, Binance, and Coinbase and nobody knows about it. And I'm an idiot on my motorcycle. Kek. 50k Link could be "burned" any day now.

>trusting a paper wallet more than a ledger

This is pretty cool. But I already have my ledger...

Trezor is open source, ledger isnt, it matters

Tough for bizlets to justify a $100 purchase to protect their $50 portfolio

Lmaooooooo

I have a trezor, and have the seed phrase stamped into multiple stainless steel sheets, which are hidden in multiple places

I have a nano S, the peace of mind is worth way more than what I paid for it. Once your portfolio is worth more than a months pay you would be crazy not to have one.

It’s not open source. The company ledger can take your crypto any day they want from the Trojan horse they installed.

>closed source
>peace of mind

Why do you trust Ledger so much ? I want public eyes on the code that is protecting my crypto. If the public can’t view the code it’s a scam

paper wallets are better security
