This daily general is for supporters of the cypherpunk ideology to hang out and help noobies learn about Monero, the most fungible cryptocurrency. A cypherpunk is any activist advocating widespread use of strong cryptography and privacy-enhancing technologies as a route to social and political change.
We believe that Monero is the logical continuation of Bitcoin because it offers superior privacy, leading the way to many potential use cases. Discussion points include rising Dark Net adoption, news articles about Monero, daily transaction totals, and new technology updates to the Monero project.
Moonboy posting is discouraged, however price speculation and TA is fine.
What are some interesting sites to shop with Monero? I bought some XMR and want to test buying something (preferably cheap) as I've never shopped with crypto before
shoot, I don't know why the merchant link is missing from the OP. But here you go: web.getmonero.org/community/merchants/ Keep in mind that you can always pay vendors accepting bitcoin as well if you use xmr.to.

Thanks, might get something from the list to test the waters. Got another question: apmex.com allows payments of precious metals with BTC/BCH. What's the most cost effective way to go about using XMR? Would I need to convert XMR to BTC then make the purchase?

dope. >What's the most cost effective way to go about using XMR? Would I need to convert XMR to BTC then make the purchase? Yes you can't pay Monero directly to Bitcoin. You can use xmr.to if you want to send Monero to a Bitcoin Address however. The website auto converts your Monero that is received by xmr.to's wallet to Bitcoin via an exchange and then sends that Bitcoin to the recipient address you inputted (in this example, being apmex). There are a lot of other ways. Morphtoken is a popular website. You can also use any of the dozens of exchanges and trade your Monero for Bitcoin and then make a purchase with the Bitcoin.

Buy some more if it feels bad, user? Surely you have more than $180 of savings?

i love monero for transactions, not storing wealth - but it was literally created as a scam coin and how the fuck is it going to scale when transactions are 10x the size of bitcoin? what happens if people actually start using it and the uncapped block size bloats the blockchain and makes it hard for the average user to run a node?

>literally created as a scam coin >transactions are 10x the size of bitcoin >uncapped block size >bloats the blockchain
Do you research 1st before posting wrong facts.

>but it was literally created as a scam coin No, Monero is a fork of a scam coin. A lot of the early cryptonote tokens were scams. > how the fuck is it going to scale when transactions are 10x the size of bitcoin? what happens if people actually start using it and the uncapped block size bloats the blockchain and makes it hard for the average user to run a node? The dynamic block size is a good thing. It means that the baselayer will grow alongside improved technology. It is somewhat of an uncertain situation for onboarding new users to run a node, but I don't think the physical size of the blockchain is the issue. The bigger problem is sync time, and this is something that will be improved through continued protocol upgrades. For example, CLSAG is being audited right now which will create more efficient Monero transactions (similar to the previous successful bulletproof implementation) and Arcturus was recently proposed which speeds up ring ct verification times. Recently, they improved verification speed by ~15% of bulletproofs with the v0.16 wallet.
lmao. i don't wanna see my girl doing porn. what makes you sad? That we aren't pumping during a bear market? This is the accumulation phase. If you want, you can continue to support Monero and use it when you need, and I respect that. But acting like Monero doesn't sucessfully work as a store of value is pretty absurd when you look at its price action from 2014 to today.

Getting a stack soon, was flipping shitcoins for while and monero is one of those coins i want a stack of for the long term.
Now now user, "porn" is not the right word. Monerochan is nothing like that slut Bitcoinchan, broadcasting her bits out to the whole world. But with the right view key, she could be persuaded to engage in a bit of tasteful nudity.
Hello user, I'm a representative for the IRS. Your cryptocurrency transactions during fiscal year 2020 will be undergoing an audit. For tax compliance purposes, we require that you provide the view keys for any and all Monero under your control.
