my company is currently working on developing communities in the middle of nowhere, such as rural south dakota, nebraska, oklahoma, texas, tennessee, etc for remote and online workers. master planned communities with everything walking distance from comfy restaurants and entertainment centers, to the schools, to the post office, to the sports and recreation area, everything. we are modeling them after us air force bases.

Yeah people think businesses opening back up means people going back to work. My job is only calling back 50% right now. After a few months, the “second callbacks” as they’ve called it will be 60-70%. But how many businesses will survive this? Yes, certain fast food establishments are thriving right now. But like my local Chipotle on 34th street. Not a soul. The rich are not paying $13 for a burrito, the poor are not paying $13 for a burrito. The worst is yet to come.

Like I could go on describing what type of businesses are affected. Broadway today announced no shows until after Jan 2021. How many tourists does that attract.

This is quite incredible. Los Angeles is similar. People used to commute from two hours+ inland to their near the coast and are now telecommuting. The result is easy traffic and LA's freeway system really shows off it's quality now. Easily the best in America. If working from home is the new norm, then say goodbye to rush hour traffic. Pretty comfy

This too. Many people are paying 20-30 bucks at the grocery store and making five of those $13 chipotle burritos after needing to do it to save money, and realizing how much they spent eating out. My job will be calling us all back but the obligation to be in the office will be minimum and still not expected to happen until October at the earliesr. At most two days at the office but telecommuting has proved to be so cost effective. Gonna probably transition to a "wework" type new office space

Yeah NYC was able to charge sky high prices for food, since the commuters were mostly well salaried employees, and tourists are usually well off and frankly had not other option to eat in a foreign country. But now those tourists are banned, and the rich are safe in their west Chester and NJ homes. The average New Yorker is reluctant to pay that much for food. It’s only been 3 months. Gonna be interesting to see what happens to real estate, food industry and entertainment.

no. i work in the finance dept of a medical device manufacturer in (((new jersey.))) the entire company has been working remote, except for our factory employees, since march. it's gone very well as only a few people need shit at the office but that's beyond the point. a manger asked our CFO point blank in a town hall meeting if we could transition toward an official work from home policy because it hasn't impacted anything. she essentially said no because muh corporate culture muh meeting people muh shaking hands.

being in an office is just a boomer power fetish. executives drive their $150k car to work and sit in their massive private offices with $10,000 furniture (i'm not even kidding, i saw the fixed assets schedule of my company) and leer down on us wagie nigger cattle in our cramped open office hellscape. it gets them off.
