I'm doubling down on it because Merck limits acquisitions to one company a quarter and they just acquired Themis in May. If they made another acquisition in June, they would be viewed as predatory and taking advantage of companies during an economic downturn. This absolves them of that.

That's actually a really strong cost-averaging strategy if you weight it properly. Do the same thing during the peaks up and you'll take home a tidy profit while mitigating a large amount of risk.
