This daily general is for supporters of the cypherpunk ideology to hang out and help noobies learn about Monero, the most fungible cryptocurrency. A cypherpunk is any activist advocating widespread use of strong cryptography and privacy-enhancing technologies as a route to social and political change.
We believe that Monero is the logical continuation of Bitcoin because it offers superior privacy, leading the way to many potential use cases. Discussion points include rising Dark Net adoption, news articles about Monero, daily transaction totals, and new technology updates to the Monero project.
Moonboy posting is discouraged, however price speculation and TA is fine.
"I think that the only effective defense against the coming surveillance dystopia is one where you take steps yourself to safeguard your privacy, because there's no incentive for self-restraint by the people that have the capacity to intercept everything. A historical analogy could be how people learned that they should wash their hands. That required the germ theory of disease to be established and then popularized, and for paranoia to be instilled about the spread of disease via invisible stuff on your hands that you can't see, just as you can't see mass interception. Once there was enough understanding, soap manufacturers produced products that people consumed to relieve their fear. It's necessary to instill fear in people so they understand the problem before they will create enough demand to solve the problem." - "Creating an electronic currency is a big deal precisely because control over the medium of exchange is one of the three ingredients of a state." "If you take away the state's monopoly over the means of economic interaction, then you take away one of the three principal ingredients of a state. In the model of the state as a mafia, where the state is a protection racket, the state shakes people down for money in every possible way. Controlling currency flows is important for revenue-raising by the state, but it is also important for simply controlling what people do- incentivizing one thing, disincentivizing another thing, completely banning a certain activity, or an organization, or interactions between organizations." "Government regulation has made particular financial players kings and doesn't allow other market entrants. Economic freedom has been impinged by an elite group that is able to influence both regulation and the principles involved in these banks."
Someone shill me some use cases for this coin. I want to believe but all I’ve seen it do is bleed sats for years
Michael Foster
USDC is the cash of crypto and once venmo starts to allow crypto buying and trading you're going to see normies trading it 1:1 because it's easier that way.
Kevin Campbell
Can you easily track cash transactions? No. Cash is inherently fungible. USDC is not. Monero is.
Hunter Evans
It’s privacy against dragnet surveillance. Protect men from divorce rape. Allows individuals to donate to people/organizations that engage in wrong think. Prevents discrimination. Prevents someone from charging you more / less based on how much you have in your wallet. Avoids taxes. Fights against oppressive government. Decentralized, fungible, digits cash with a known inflation and a asic resistant culture.
Jeremiah Thomas
It's not about what you can and can't track. It's about convenience for normies. If they can load up $100 in USDC to venmo and then trade it around for no transaction fee, they will. It's literally what venmo is anyway. Do you even have friends user? Everyone uses venmo to pay each other.
William Gray
Yeah everyone uses Venmo so why would they exchange money to crypto? And you are wrong. It IS about what is tracked. There are so many use cases for actual private, decentralized, fungible cash. Go look into adoption on the dark net or just keep your head in the sand.
Jaxson Hernandez
I don't live in a country where venmo is popular. >do YoU haVE fRiends USDC will make it very easy to track everyone.
Ryder Sanders
Deepweb markets, kidnap ransoms, trojan cpu miners, tax evasion for millionaires and international transactions for sanctioned states (ie Russia, Venezuela, North Korea..)
Because venmo is going to offer it. Jesus durde, this isn't hard to understand. I'm not shilling USDC or anything, I'm telling you exactly what's going to happen. Venmo has nothing to do with he darknet you autist. What part of normies don't you get? I'm not talking about people like you and I, I'm talking about Brad who buys lunch for Tim and instead of paying him back .0000000000000102473726929473 bitcoin or .55040392827472 chain link or .000000018282737362919 Monero, he will just pay him 6 USDC. You need to get off the computer and join the real world. It will he about convenience, plane and simple. Just like paying with your phone. >I don't live in a country where venmo is popular Great, that has nothing to do with our conversation as you probably won't be using venmo. Thanks for your useless input. Glad the US has given you a forum to voice your opinion even if your opinion has nothing to do with the subject.
Mason Hall
once Monero gets on lightning network I am very excited to see its integration onto Stakenet DEX.
Leo Ramirez
>because venmo is going to offer it that makes no sense. they will just continue offering their service. why use usdc when they can just use usd? >Venmo has nothing to do with he darknet you autist. What part of normies don't you get? what part of usecase don't you understand you autist. Are you the retard that was in here the other day that didn't comprehend what an escrow payment was? >.0000000000000102473726929473 bitcoin or .55040392827472 chain link or .000000018282737362919 Monero, he will just pay him 6 USDC. You need to get off the computer and join the real world. It will he about convenience, plane and simple. Just like paying with your phone. Man if only there was a way to convert monero to dollars hmmmmmm. And please, go on and ignore all the other usecases we have been listing.
Easton Phillips
Use cases like adopting third worlders on the dark web. Yeah, I'm sure your average person is going to use that once a week. Enjoy your coin, make sure you put this thread up again in a year after venmo rolls it out so I can come in here and laugh at you idiots for literally being a year slower than me.
Lucas Hughes
You all deserve to know that ETH and XMR are the only two crypto projects that matter and that corecuck BTC is complete and total trash.
Xavier Brooks
Your logic makes no sense. Venmo already works successfully, so why would it adopt a usdc token? It’d be a token for the sake of having a token. People use Venmo because it works as a debt card. However that doesn’t work out in the long run due to surveillance and the erosion of fiat over time (unless you’re actually arguing that holding fiat in the long term is a smart idea. Which would be amusing to say the least). I also find it funny that you think dark net adoption is a bad thing. It’s how bitcoin got started you idiot. Look where bitcoin is now. And what would being a “year slower” even dictate? Dollars don’t appreciate in value over time.
Isaiah Edwards
this coin deserves a higher price with use cases like this
Christopher Brown
The funny thing is those use cases were initially applied to Bitcoin before chain analysis became a thing. I disagree. I don't think Bitcoin is going away anytime soon and they are still making some innovations. For example, Dandelion ++ was originally created for Bitcoin but then Monero just took the research and put it into Monero while Bitcoin just continued existing without getting anything done (they still haven't implemented Dandelion). In my opinion, Bitcoin may in the short term hit 100k at the next bull run, but it is going to slowly lose it's userbase to Monero over time as the aforementioned usecases come to fruition. It is possible Bitcoin will always be on top just because of the network effect, but Monero will ultimately become the ultimate anti-fiat hedge (and especially from a privacy standpoint).
Kevin Turner
it means if you don't have 10 monero or more you're be suicidal in about 1-3 years
Jacob Martin
I just bought another [unknown amount]
Kayden Hughes
People are too brain dead to understand privacy.
They'll eventually understand, but by then hodlers will have amassed a fortune. Just like bitcoin.
>The day is July 24 2020. You wake up as the sun starts to rise. You don't need an alarm anymore. Two naked women lie beside you. You don't recognize the second one. She must be a friend of your girlfriend. You really need to lay off the cocaine. You're starting to get sloppy.
>You check your blockfolio, the value of pivvr increased by 5x while you slept, the new hype Wasape was talking about must have been better than expected. You think back to a month ago. You only bought 1 eth in the presale but when pivvr hit 100x you suddenly had 100 eth.
>You were very tempted to sell at 5x,10x,20x but you forced yourself to hold. You sat on your hands. It was even harder to hold when bitcoin did 20x hitting 200k each, but you told yourself that this is your last chance. You thought about how much you would hate yourself if you sold too early.
>Finally when you had $2m in ether you sold half. You couldn't resist any longer. Now you hate yourself for it. If you would have waited that $2m would be $10m by now, and you use a lot of cocaine and ketamine to distract yourself from the fact that you could have bought a yacht if you just waited a little longer.
>You push the new girl aside so you have more room to stretch and she yipes and shrinks away. You look around the room for the drug plate and do a line of ketamine mixed with cocaine. It's OK you tell yourself, $2m is a lot. But inside, you are screaming.
>But you will eventually get over it and stop using drugs. After all, it was only one eth.
