I would NOT recommend to collect them for investment purposes at all.
If you like no not like, if you love gemstones just collect them because you will eventually want all of them in your collection.
If you want investment grade gemstones to maintain your purchasing power or make a nice profit you are talking about at least $25-$50k a stone for the decent precious gemstones with a low carat and semi precious with a high carat.
My clientele are only top class rich people they buy the stones to either put them in jewellery or preserve wealth.
If you want to make big gains you are probably better off with cryptos and stocks.
