XMR will develop to be the store of value Bitcoin wanted to be, while also still being able to be used as currency with scaling on the first layer. rumour has it satoshi works for Monero. 5 of the 7 lead developers are anonymous.

but to be fair, I think theres no more time left. with usage growing hard, soon demand will be above supply. as you can see on the BTC/XMR chart it has been stable with bitcoin for the past 6 months. Holding bitcoin or XMR was the exact same thing the past half year

I think Bitcoin is like HTTP and Monero is like HTTPS. HTTP was first, it laid the foundation for the early Web and dominated it. HTTPS adds some overhead to the pure simplicity of HTTP, so early webmasters would not have been eager to implement it. For a while, both protocols were in use on the Web, HTTPS showing up wherever privacy was essential but otherwise less common. But today in 2020, every single connection in my open tabs is over HTTPS. The overhead, the lateness to the game of HTTPS didn't matter, it's now the One True Protocol of the Web and defectors today are ostracized. The whole Internet is more secure when encryption is the default, and invested players knew this and encouraged a shift to this model.

The dynamic seems similar in crypto right now. Bitcoin true believers frequently accept that Monero offers good privacy. They may exchange some of their precious Bitcoin for Monero for transactions where they want privacy. They believe this is a kind of symbiotic relationship that can last indefinitely, Bitcoin for storing value, Monero for private transactions. (Unless they're Bitcoin maxis who can't admit that their tech is bad and stagnant.) I don't think this will happen. After the dust settles, there will be one king blockchain acting as money. This is how network effects, feedback loops of adoption, play out every time in every space. It's entirely possible for Bitcoin to hold onto the throne. But nothing I've seen in the Bitcoin community since 2017 suggests that they're capable of responding to a serious challenge.
