It's more like 1-2 hours every 6-8 hours but yes, that's exactly how it works. It's awful. You have to carefully measure your speed at every moment during the trip because the car can somewhat charge through friction in downward slopes and you want to maximize that and hit the inflection point of speed x power usage.
