I met some Mexicans recently who at first breath made sure I knew that they were from the Bay Area
There is this idea that if you are from the Bay Area it makes you special. Bay Area people think they are better than others because they are told that their whole lives by other Bay Area people and other forms of media

Now these Mexicans were so proud of themselves for not only making it to America but also to the Bay Area. This was something they took pride in.
They thought that by simply announcing to me that they were from the Bay Area that it would for some reason increase the way that I looked at them some how.

Almost like a brand. They wanted me to know they were wearing the not just the “California brand” but also the Bay Area one.

They thought that by showing me this “brand” I would look up to them. After all California is shilled hard in rap music and by other Californians as some sort of paradise.

Little did they know that I grew up in the Bay Area and I was not impressed by them shilling me this stupid fucking brand. I could quite clearly tell they were trying to live outside of their means.

any other rich coastal city private school yuppies know the best way to cope with living in a cheap suburban/rural area? living in SF now but i feel like an idiot throwing so much money away when i could live in ohio at 1/6th the cost. during quarantine and with my office closed there's basically no reason to be throwing money down the drain in SF, but i dont know how to adjust to living in a place with no culture and shit food and uneducated people like ohio.
