I agree. I really hate how Yu Yu Hakusho had the same damn upbeat theme for all of the show. Sure the visuals changed, but the song didn't fit the second half of the show. Same with Hokuto no Ken. You wa shock is a great op for the start of the show, but around mid point it really wears out its welcome. They should have introduced another OP in the middle. Usually the OP the the show starts with, doesn't match the tone it ends with.

I don't see the appeal of the first GG op. Its just a pop song from an English band. Are we really gonna fallate it because of that? The second OP has a great singer, some real emotion behind it, better rhythm and overall it just feels better. I have listened to it for a few hundred times at least, because its a great song with great replay value. The first OP really doesn't have that. I guess it just comes down to tastes in music. And you know what they say, you can't argue over taste.

Not at all. Again, each OP reflects the state of the show. First one is pure action and... nothing more, just like the first season.
It's valid if it's your favorite but the best one has to be Sasageyo Sasageyo, it has SOUL.
And the final opening as well reflects the fact that the show is coming to an end, the final part always gets me when they reprise parts of the previous songs as the camera zooms in to the horizon

I've watched the first two Doremi series and while I wouldn't say either opening is complete shit they're not openings I really like very much so I usually skipped them. And they both last the 50 episodes of their respective season.

Naruto, Bleach, Soul Eater, Blood+, Gundam Wing, Hajime no Ippo, Inuyasha, Saint Seiya, Kiba, Yu-Gi-Oh (Duel Monsters), Getbackers, Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru and there are other but i don't remember them at the time.

If I had to place it, it's because OP1 has a high-reverb, almost church-y kind of feel to it with the choir and the strings. It has an atmosphere, and when I compare that to OP2s, admittedly sombre, jrock-ishness, I find myself feeling about OP2 the same as you seem to feel about OP1. Both of us seem to think there's nothing special about the other, so whatever. Agree to disagree, as you say it's a subject of taste.

EDs are usually just ok or not great. Some of them are incredible especially if a show leads into them, like Symphogear, but that doesn't happen often.

Anime series are already short and on budget constraints, then why make an opening? Even Hollywood and other high-budget series have simple, short openings and endings. Why, why, would you waste money animating three to four minutes, altogether with music and stuff, instead of adding two more minutes to the series or having the chance to improve the overall production value of the series? This isn't even considering that openings and endings change every 6-8 episodes so in only one cour you're investing money into six to seven minutes of good animation plus original copyrighted music

Openings only change every cour usually. And anime these days usually only has one cour at a time anyway. Older anime often would go an entire 50+ episodes with a single opening. Maybe with new visuals. Openings are some of the things I look forward to the most when watching an anime though, especially an adaptation, since they're usually the best animated part and can be synced up well to the song.

I'm split because it entirely depends on whether you think something is good or not. I'd rather have one good OP than a bunch of shit OPs, but I'd rather have a bunch of good OPs than one shit one, so it just comes down to taste. I think it'd be fine if there were new OPs every 20-25 episodes instead of 13 like the current trend, but at the same time that might not always reflect what's happening in the episode- and also it encourages the directors to put spoilers/references to later stuff in it which can be annoying.

First season op was cool and stylized, this one is basically a generic romcom op and then they slapped this really cool song on the visuals that really don't deserve it.

The ending theme is better in the first season 2
Thankfully both season 1 and 2 are good overall

Visuals are fine, though. They work really well with the music, they look good and they tell a story. And the music is fucking great. I understand preferring the original, but it's still great and arguably better.

Welcome to the NHK did it pretty well. Losing the trumpets in the 2ND was good enough to mark a shift in the series. Using the another NHK produced series, I also liked how in Log Horizon, they have the same Opening (it's pretty good and will fit the show regardless) but for the ED they have the same singer but switch out the song with something just as good. The Kaguya anime did a good job following up the OP for Season 1 as well

Monogatari having a different opening for each arc was iconic af and nearly all of them are memorable, even in later seasons.

Why do people who watch anime give so much importance to opening themes anyway?
I mean I understand that an OP (more than an ED) also has the role of presenting a show, but it isn't a big deal for the enjoyment. Even more so a second opening.

A great OP can hype you up and get you excited to watch the show, or become iconic and stick in your memory afterwards. A bad OP doesn't really take anything away from a show, but it doesn't add anything either.

I don't skip OP and ED the first couple of times to have a look at the visuals, or to learn the song if I happen to like it. When I marathon a show I skip them though.

Visuals are fine, but I think my problem is I almost never like the songs. They are mostly there to advertise the artist rather than having something to do with the show thematically, and I'm too particular about what music I like anyway.

That's what they are there for, yeah, it's a mutual advertising. Many artists became successful thanks to their songs being anime openings or endings.
While I find most anime OPs genuinely catchy, very few of them remain with me. And this is unrelated to what anime I liked or I didn't like.

Some were. I was just saying that having a single opening for 50+ episodes usually means the opening is more designed for the start of the series and may not represent how the series develops. And that it sucks if you're stuck with a single opening for the entire show if you don't like that opening.
