I'm surprised Zero wasn't first since it was the first released new dub. I guess doing the episode one special first is to bring in new viewers better. I expect some kind of rerelease one day of the Lupin specials since Discotek is who puts out lots of Lupin material.
Glad it's not Zero getting put out first, we can get some fresh material sooner rather than later, that Zero dub will have been on nyaa for a year by the end of this month, and I'm ready to hear what their takes are on more of the characters. Episode One has a lot of new ones to be dubbed for the first time, like Vermouth and Jodie at the end during the car chase.

I don't really care about the voice actor's personal oppression problems or hitting on women or any of that metoo crap as long as he does the role well.
I will agree that Jerry Jewel not being involved is a very disappointing hit to the new dub. I wish Funimation was willing to try again but I think it might be cheaper for TMS to go directly through Bang Zoom which has always felt really cheap with its dubs. I mean they did Zero the Enforcer, Crimson Love Letter, and the Episode One special without making any profit first. Presumably The Darkest Nightmare too.
I'll also really miss Alison Viktorin as Conan, she has such an adorable voice that made me love him and it worked with those old designs. Wendee Lee sounds notably like a deep voiced woman, it doesn't work in the same way as a gruff voiced woman doing someone like Naruto. The original Ran supports the new Ran, though I wonder if anyone like Jewel or Viktorin even know the show is coming back again, I don't remember seeing them comment on the dub screenings last year. Conan was Alison's first big role, and I think it's one of the only times Jerry has played a main character. They still seem to remember the roles well when someone references it to them, which is nice.

Yea that sucks and I don't particularly like these traits and some dubbers on a personal level but I don't actively seek out to learn about it, I hear it when it's mentioned like this in a thread I'm in, I mainly just listen to their performance and that's all I really care about. There's rumors Colleen was some fat fetish shitposter too but it doesn't seep into her voice acting. The only ones that bother me directly are the ones whose beliefs interfere with the content of the dub, like if they want a line changed because it's demeaning to women, something Funimation is guilty of.

TMS commissioned Bang Zoom to dub at least one movie (Zero the Enforcer) for a Southeastern Asian market in English for an alternative audio track. Someone found it on a streaming service for that market and put it on nyaa about a year ago this month. It spread slightly but since it was a torrent exclusive and America doesn't know Conan well, it was just a few comments about it. The new dub is unrelated to the original except using the Case Closed moniker. It has Japanese names and new voice actors.
TMS later announced there are plans to release Blue Sapphire overseas with #CaseClosed, which hasn't been followed up on yet. Since then, they released Zero the Enforcer (as "Detective Conan") at an anime expo, and then a double release at another expo (as "Case Closed") of Crimson Love Letter and Episode "One". Someone also has Darkest Nightmare on their resume but there's been no mention of it by TMS yet. They've also since then said "sorry no dub yet" when sharing a link to a Crunchyroll uploaded episode (they do subs of Conan) which is either a reference to the announced dubs or teasing the main series is in consideration.
These are likely never going to air anywhere as the American broadcasting standards have gotten worse since 2004 where Case Closed was already put on Adult Swim past midnight because of Standards and Practices and the network not having faith in it. There was some kind of chance these movies could get limited screenings in theaters that do anime fathom events but with coronavirus tanking theaters everywhere it's probably even less likely. TMS might be desperate enough for more box office results of the Conan movies to try though, which is probably why they're trying America again at all after a nearly 10 year hiatus.

Yea, Funimation also dubbed a game for it with all the Case Closed voices and American names, made a website for its American release, and then just quietly cancelled it without any announcement and it only got released in Europe for some reason. I think the original release date in America got pushed back at least once or twice, before there was no updates. At some point they just had a change of heart and gave up entirely on the license. Surprising that they did the game but didn't actually release it in its real market. I also remember all the interviews saying the movies were still possible since they were selling well, and that the episodes were a lot less likely. I wonder why they just gave up out of nowhere and eventually resented anyone bringing up Case Closed at all, even banning questions on their forums about it.

Gon sounds younger than Bang Zoom Conan does most of the time. I hope they work out that kink or something in these other dubbed materials but it's probably just how it's going to be. I'm still curious what they're going to do if they reach a round Conan era movie, either she keeps talking like this which only suits his angular older look and it doesn't fit at all, or she stops talking so deep and it just comes across as if he aged.

For the same reason Germans were celebrating when a couple years back it was announced the series was being picked up from where it left off in the very early hundreds. People like when material they love gets brought over to their area. For a few years I was mainly just curious how the old Case Closed dub went, looking through old interviews and reception online, but I didn't expect it to be tried again and I'm not the kind of person to make stupid petitions to continue the old dub or anything. I'm just curious how it's going to go.

New dub means new BDs in our language, and the only people doing BDs without the original Japanese are faggots like Viz who put out dub only Pocket Monsters BDs.
Also, it means there's a higher change of theater releases for Case Closed.
