Wyald is the biggest fucking disappointment for me in Berserk thus far. I was expecting some crazy rape and fighting obsessed badass that went down enjoying himself and complimenting his enemy to the very end after carving destruction throughout Midland in pursuit and instead I got a disgusting wrinkled coward those cute and sexy lives were wasted on.

To be fair, I think Casca's rape in 13 is one of the more, for lack of a better term, tasteful uses of rape as character development. It isn't treated lightly even for a second, and really shouldn't arouse the reader, although I'm sure it did for some people. It's a great example of rape being used as a weapon to make somebody feel powerless, and that's exactly what Griffith wanted to do in that moment.

You're conflating him too much with Zodd. Zodd is the kind of apostle who would accept that he's going to end up in the vortex at some point and wants to go down in a blaze of glory. Wyald is introduced as nothing but a depraved hedonist, which is why he is terrified of death, once things don't go his way and he is no longer having fun he completely loses it.
