Asuka vs. Rei is unmatched, possibly in all of fiction. I can't think of a bigger best girl dispute. People will continue to debate it as long as anime is remembered at all. Aerith vs. Tifa meanwhile is barely remembered by anyone, people just know Tifa as that chick they busted nuts to years ago and Aerith as the girl who dies (or maybe she won't in the new one, who knows), very few people have strong opinions on these characters.
