I’m posting this thread because I genuinely love this series and I wanted to talk about in an serious manner. So to boot it off, lets try to have a civil discussion with barley any shitposting going on. So I’ll start with a few questions.

When you consider their situation after The Golden Age arc, yeah it would makes sense for Guts to go fucking mental. Hell, Guts even felt awful about and it was the Beast controlling him, it wasn’t his intent to commit rape.

So, I read through the Golden Age since an user recently storytimed it. Wow. 4C movies actually made this arc look slightly better than it is.
Story flow: non-existant. It's timeskips up the ass. It looks like Araki was just making things up as he went. As a consequence, it doesn't work as a backstory to why Griffith is a big bad who Guts wants to gut.
Worldbuilding: none. The least you can do when writing fantasy is to draw a map, but even that is not done. Additionally, there is no consistent design theme, it's just a mishmash of things that look cool. People on the internet call this approach "all style, no substance", not a bad thing per se, but detrimental when writing a fantasy world.
Warfare tactics: check out Alderamin to see how it's done. You know you work has issues when one cites a battle harem as superior to it.
Character development: only the main trio and Zodd get it consistently. Additionally, the King and Charlotte get it VERY late into the arc, and the band of the poorly translated falcon members get it even MORE late than that. In light of this, it's especially funny to see the fans complain about 4C cutting their scenes, because the scenes that didn't make it into the movies are precisely the ones that are not related to the band.
The only strong point is the artwork and the intricate design of armor and monsters. However they are also the primary reason why Berserk will never get an adaptation that is not CG.

It's an amazing story despite the surface edginess, great artwork. Guts' willpower and willingness to face impossible odds, Griffith's ambition and leadership skills(before he becomes the villain of course) are pretty inspirational, make them characters you can learn from.

This story is about Guts and Griffith, to a lesser extent casca.
There is no reason for the story to progress after the eclipse because we can understand why griffith became femto, we can understand why guts is an edgelord but a broken man in the black swordsman.

Nice blend of 80's action flick, epic fantasy, and melodramatic shoujo like Rose of Versailles. Berserk keeps shifting tones making never feel repetitive.

Maybe another dive into Casca's mind, but this time Guts is involved. It didn't feel right to have Shierke and Farnese do the fixing since it's one of Guts' more personal conflicts.

I'm not a veteran manga reader BUT HOLY CRAP the art is so good and such a masterpiece for a 90's manga. The story really aint for kids and fairy tale happy go luckies; I like stories that depicts reality. I haven't watched the '97 anime but i heard all the songs made and ngl it was addicting (both old and new songs).

apart from the way character has gone full uguu stylewise,and how Guts has become a supporting character to Farnese and Schierke; Miura going back to drawing traditionally. I don't get why he started drawing digitally anyway

I dislike "serious" threads that attempt to railroad discussion and give me a questionnaire to start with, like I'm trying to impress a teacher on a test.
Discussion should be organic and spontaneous, like how come no one ever ever so much as raises an eyebrow at Griffith's silky white hair? I don't know, even living in a world full of strange happenings and fantasy it should be pretty weird to ignore that one guy who happens to not have normal black/brown/blonde hair like everyone else, maybe even elevate him to leader status instead of burning him like a witch.
