, but the thing that's pissing me off is that Grange has been stuck in this infinite limbo and his time with Bakarina keeps getting less and less. The last time he's able to have good moments with her's in volume 8 where he saved Maria and Bakarina from rape.
On the other hand, all the developments are happening around Maria at the expense of everyone else.

That's sort of the problem after the dark magic arc. This sort of premise isn't really supposed to go out farther than the graduation of Nicole, and it shows in the characterization.
