Why is the isekai trope became so popular all of the sudden? Can't just Japs make a high fantasy series and call it a day instead of pumping out more stupid self-insert isekai? What's the fucking purpose of your character having a "real life" backstory when they don't even talk about or look back at it volumes later?

>All of the sudden

Isekai wasnt that relevant up until 2014

That is 6 years ago man

It's true it's far from a NEW genre but it used to be a bit more spaced out and not 5 or more a year.

2012 or 2013 if you're talking about the source materials.

Buy yourself a fucking calendar user.

Can't justify RPG metagaming if someone is a native.

6 years is as recent as you were being gestated by your mom

Isekai isn't a genre.

>when a writer writes a book, he fulfills his wishes in the process of writing it
>his wish being to put his thoughts or his imagination on paper to reach out towards other people with his fiction

this is the most pretentions thing I've read on Zig Forums for a very long time

>All isekai is same trash and but I can't name 20 like that and will only post tetriary examples I found online under 1 minute as proofs
>MC are former underage NEETS and so is isekai target audience
>MC are sociopaths for not rebelling against tyranny of nobles
>Slavery in isekai is ethically unacceptable for modern moral person
>Mods 404 my shitty bait isekai threads because nobody likes isekai
>Every isekai is game elements isekai
>Otome is for fujos even though 99% MC are straight as nails
>All isekai are the same but I can't name 20 of them
>Shitty OC magic system is better than ripping off DnD or DQ
>Isekai is immoral because it provides an escape from solvable IRL problems
>Isekai bandwagon is profitable so all Japanese authors jump it
>MC are cold psychos for not wanting to get back to their loved ones
>JUST create banks, Ponzi and pyramid schemes and rule everything
>Democracy with DnD magical power scaling in the picture
>There's no actual romance, friendship, struggle, drama, tragedy or character growth in isekai ever
>Isekai is profoundly demoralizing because MC gets it all without struggle, suffering and personal growth
>Let's SANCTION the demon king
>Ultimatum is negotiations
>SAO is isekai
>I've read all 10 chapters of Overlord novelization, trust me!
>IQ is IRL cheat, so are legs, cut off one if you disagree
>Talent isn't genetic
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Just make it regular fantasy
>Only a purefag would call marrying a whore used thousands of times cuckery
>Glasses are magic for the blind
>Tolkien thought LOtR through, why can't isekai authors?
>Medieval right of vengeance: vigilantism is legal as long as victim does it
>Bandits can just issue fake quests to entrap and enslave adventurers
>Carriages are unmanly
>Just summarize everything expanding on intermissions isn't necessary

It's often a thinly veiled excuse for the author to be able to make Japanese cultural references.

why do VN MC have no face you fucking idiot

Its for self-inserting purposes.

user you are kinda late with this thread, if anything Isekai fever is slowing down

>slowing down
I don't think it ever will, because I think it's not actually about the isekai itself. I for one have no desire to learn more about the daily misadventures of the chronically overworked people working in the transportation sector of Japan, nor have I a morbid fascination with reading descriptions of "average" school kids getting terminally involved in the said misadventures. Those almost comical mini-stories are not what I start reading isekai for and I often wish I could just skip them (though they typically deliver some sort of minimal introduction to the main characters and justification for whatever cheats they are going to receive).

The isekai is just a marker to tell people something.
This story is going to be wish fulfillment.
It's not normal fantasy. There will be no meaningful struggle. The main character will solve problems through sheer awesomeness. Come have a read. We have cute girls that are, without exception, madly in love with the MC.

That's the sort of story I'm looking for. Not every isekai is of this kind. But it's what defines the genre's popularity and infamy. All in all, it's just meta information that is tucked into the story itself.

Kneel before isekai

Pretentiousness isn't the word I'd use for it. I'd call it sad since he still believes in the idealized notion of people creating stuff for the soul purpose of having others enjoy it instead of just making something they can profit off of like everyone does nowadays.

They do it in the hopes of it getting picked up by a publishing company and becoming official.

reading isekai feels like I'm reading wattpad/fanfiction.net levels of amateur content. Maybe I should just make one if that's what it takes to become a successful author nowadays because teenage powerlevel fantasies and metacomedies with waifu illustrations are selling like hotcakes everywhere.

Man, all of a sudden these "Attack on Titan" and "Boku no Hero Academia" series are super popular and nobody talks about Kenichi or TWGOK anymore, what happened?

>what are web novels
