he killed him because he was starting a revolt by going to Jerusalem. later when Rome became Christian they added the Jew stuff in order to use them as scapegoat.
and btw, the documents from that time (e.g. dead sea scrolls) suggest that it wasn't one guy, but a group of people who started a revolt around the time where Jesus was said to be alive, and they all got crucified. Later, when the new Testament was written, this story was probably modified to have one heroic figure (Jesus) instead of a group on literal whos.
