Why is it not as popular in the West as Naruto, Bleach and MHA...

Why is it not as popular in the West as Naruto, Bleach and MHA? Was it really cause of 4kids ruining its reputation or was it the artstyle and it being about pirates that didn't appeal to us like ninjas did?

Because BnHA is unironically better.

Is BNHA even better than Naruto?

Narutotards and Bleachart (in general ) liked each other but they hated One Piece

They used to say stuff like this:

"Naruto is my favorite but bleach has the best art ever oh my gosh"

"One Piece? I did read it (up until syrup village) but find it really boring"

Good old times

>and bleachtards

I know a lot of people who either didn't find devil fruits interesting or found out it was 1000 episodes long and still going.

But Naruto and most other shounen are super long too.

I know but biggest complaint was its super long and no where near done yet. Whereas like bleach and naruto are long but done.

It's just not that good

But naruto they've watched a big part on tv anyway

So naruto, bleach and mha are that good?

Only watched a bit of it but most of the characters were meh imo. Zoro and Sanji are kinda cool but like Zoro is your typical edgy boi and Sanji is typical horny boy.

the artstyle legitimately filtered amerifats. it's also centered on muh nakama more than fightfaggotry.

Because it's far more of a kid's show than the others, and honestly the battles aren't that interesting or hype or crazy. Luffy just isn't that cool of a character unless you're 10 years old, sorry

literally because it lacked feminine appeal and crawling in my skin for edgy teen boys.

manga in the west was primarily fueled by emo kids and weird nerd girls. other kids just played video games.

>amerifats

Yeah Op, you are talking more in context of north america than "the west"

>whitebeard dies
>zeff doesn't regrow his leg

ok

The artstyle is why I picked it up though. I prefer it over the regular anime artstyle although it isn't as good as it used to be imo. But the Warlords>>>Akatsuki, Espada etc and all other shounen villains other than maybe the Genei Ryodan (design wise)

4kids fucked it up so bad that nobody wanted to give it a 2nd chance. one piece definitely would have been more popular in the west if literally any other localization company had their hands on it. western kids love pirates

The anime launch was botched with the 4kids shit. I guarantee you if Funimation brought it to Toonami in like 2001/2002 it would have done much better.

The characters are perfect

Yep pirates aren't as interesting as ninjas to Westerners and the opposite being true in Japan is probably a reason why OP is more popular there. The fucking artstyle is garbage and after seeing the timeskip Nami, I'm glad I never bothered. It's a fucking parody of itself.

Cultural difference I guess. Like Kimetsu is currently the hottest shit in Japan but I don't see it touching Hero's popularity in the West.

Bleach and Naruto were more popular in the West even back while they were still airing though

I don't know if I buy the whole pirates not being as interesting to westerners because we're more inundated with them as opposed to ninjas which is exotic, the main reason why people say Naruto is popular here but One Piece isn't, when capeshit is flooding our media and yet OPM and MHA are still popular.

Even without those things, it takes too long to get good.

This. Naruto and Bleach had very little ramp up time before getting good. One Piece you have to trudge through 100 episodes before it even really begins

It's gag based and starts out slow, for all their faults Naruto and Bleach played it straight and melodramatic as fuck

>Why is it not as popular in the West as Naruto, Bleach and MHA?
For a start: Abhorrent art style, no fappable waifu bitches

If One Piece had a more Pirates of the Caribbean aesthetic early on it probably would have caught on in the west faster. It wasn't really until Marineford where we were getting characters with cool pirate vibes.

lol at all these kids that think they know shit about the early to mid 00s and why One Piece wasn't popular when they weren't even fucking there. Bleach and MHA were way after One Piece was set into last place, Naruto killed it's chances on day one.

Naruto and One Piece were running in US Jump way back when the Pirates vs Ninja debate used to be a hot topic so Naruto vs One Piece became a really common mindset as a result. We're talking before the two anime even started airing when the manga was starting to take off and US Jump was introducing the two series to new audiences. You couldn't just like both. You couldn't like ninjas and pirates no one wanted to be that kind of fence sitting faggot.

One Piece's art was a huge turn off for most people too and nearly ever kid I knew read One Piece last, if they read it at all, when they were burning through their copies of Jump. It's length wasn't much of a factor then and most readers in that era preferred long series. The "LONG BAD" is a far more modern mentality because back then a longer series gave you more to read and more fights with those characters. Plus they weren't quite as long back then and since Viz was just starting the releases you could collect them slowly instead of having to buy 70 something backlog volumes.

When the anime started that was the final nail in the coffin because the 4kids dub was neigh unwatchable and in that era not everyone really had access to fansubs. When Bleach came along it buried One Piece even further, and since there was no "Samurai vs Ninjas" meme debate to really cause a divide between the two.

MHA came at just the right time in the west. It was right smack dab in the middle of the superhero craze, and it's a show that appeals to people that don't normally watch anime. Funimation was also really on the ball with the dub during season 2 and 3 putting episodes out the same day or so that they aired in Japan. And maybe some of 4? I don't really keep up I just know they got the dub out fast for 2 and 3. I think had it come sooner, or later it wouldn't have been so big here.
