2003 vs Brotherhood

2003:
>Comfy Early 2000s artstyle
>Sound track is top notch
>Takes the themes of 2003 to their limit, harsher approach to things.
>The plot and pacing are much more fleshed out in the first two acts.
>The Homunculi as a concept are more interesting in 2003
>Edward's characterisation in this anime is phenomenal
>Literally every character other than Lust, Scar and Ed gets fucking shafted in terms of character development (Mainly due to the immense focus on the brothers and the canon movie)
>In contrast the Ed, Alphonse gets done dirty mainly because his insecurities get overplayed and drawn out (The Barry the chopper fuckery is painful in a bad way)
>The pacing and plot go off the fucking rails in the final act.
>The filler episodes tend to be pretty bad, with the red water 2 parter being particularly offensive.
>Sometimes overly pessimistic without the thought to back it up
It's an interesting take but despite the story and characters being the cited strength, I think it's actually one of 2003's weak points. It's no joke about the last act being a garbage fire though.

Brotherhood:
>The pacing is too fast for the entire first act and story issues ripple out to parts of the second act because of it
>The humour can become seriously overdone to the point of tonal dissonance as well as not necessarily being funny anyway
>Homunculi as a concept are pretty boring conceptually due to the main villain and some are completely 2 dimensional
>The cast is balanced much better in this version while still keeping the spotlight on the brothers.
>Alphonse isn't a complete fucking bitch
>The overarching plot heads in a much better direction this time around
>The animation is fucking nutworthy
>The ost is phenomenal
>About as much closure you can ask for from any show.
Brotherhood suffers as a standalone show because it REALLY expects you to know the story beforehand, overall though it's head and shoulders better than 2003 and has a tighter, lighter plot.

All I know is that Brotherhood ended on Ed fighting the bad guy with friends cheering him on and wining through the power of friendship, and then getting a happy end whereas 2003 ended with a bittersweet ending — so 2003 is better.

2003 > brotherhood

The 2003 anime ends on a pretty good resolution but CoS of shamballa fucking suuuuucks in terms of story and is canon to boot.

>Hating on kino of shambala
Shit taste.

Elaborate. Diethard manages to be significantly worse than both series's bare bones big bads.

>because it REALLY expects you to know the story beforehand
Stop spouting this, the reason the pace is breakneck is because that's how it is in the manga, it's faithful to a fault.

I'd argue that the homunculi being 2 dimensional works for broho where it wouldn't work or 03 because in broho they are just the sin the represent given a body rather than a person given the name of a sin.
Also I'm glad you brought up Al, I don't often see people complaining about how shit he's handled in 03 (and broho to a less offensive extent) it's really baffling that neither adaptation could capture his character from the manga as just as much of a little shit as Ed but slightly more polite rather than nisan.mp3. The worst offender is certainly Shamballa where he fucking goes off the rails and cosplays Ed but I suppose you could argue that's fine because he's 11.

>A completely original thread no one has posted before
I know this is a joke but it's not far off, most threads open with 'brotherhood or 03 a shit!' and that's the depth of their argument. It's nice to have an actual discussion, unfortunately I doubt this'll live long since it's late in burgerland.

How is he such a cute bros?

>brotherhood tards will now spam pro 03 threads to falseflag
Truly out of arguments.

>OP says he likes brotherhood better
>F-Falseflag pro-03 thread!
The absolute state of 03 fags.

Nice falseflag OP

>Brotherhood fag posing as an 03 fag as a falseflag to claim op is falseflagging

When you grow up you will learn that being sad doesn't make something automatically good

Piss off 03 schizo.

>Fake png checkerboard

shit dude, I couldnt choose. I do think 2003 hits highest highs but also lower lows. stuff like envy's origin really hit the guts heh.

but brotherhood is also a lot of fun and a good begginers anime to recommend. I love the side characters and the pacing is better. the animation obviously is better but loses the 2000s soul. a solid show overall.

Honestly I preferred the final episodes to the 03. It wasn't cliche and the parallel world made the Elrics feel even more real. Ofcourse mustang is much better in Brotherhood because of fighting screen time but eh

>canon movie
Don't remind me

>final episodes to the 03
That wasnt canon.

Finished watching Brotherhood yersterday. Almost all characters are poorly written, and the gritty atmosphere that some people might die which was built in the first 10 episodes evaporates entirely as the series turns to saccharine fights where the winner is the one who screams more, with no repercussions.
The way characters think and behave past the early phase of the series is so much more juvenile than most anime aimed at kids. Can't see Amuro forgiving his father for abandoning him, which results in the death of his mother, let alone after 5 minutes of meaningless prattle.

The ending was really bad, but at that point I had no higher expectations.
Shame the themes weren't taken a bit more seriously, and that the plot bends backwards to protect certain characters from doing any wrong.

Seriously, is this a new meme? Am I being gas lighted by the whole board? I see this shit so often and I'm usually the only one who calls people out for it. Newfag vetting is at an all time low, this is not a good sign.

But Amuro I assume you mean Al?He was never really angry at Hoenheim, Ed was only angry at him because he blamed him for not being there to stop them from doing necromancy and because everything fell on his shoulders when Trisha died. Also Hoenheim leaving had no impact on Trisha's death, she was killed by a virus in a pandemic. Sure maybe Hoenheim could've healed her with some philosopher's stone voodoo but Al doesn't know that.

I liked both

Based

Shambala is wasted potential, and most of this is because the script had to be shortened instead of what was originally intended.

The bittersweet ending of 2003 > Shambala ending, and that OVA was dogshit.

Amuro. The fact they weren't angry at their father is dumb. No one acts like that.

>They
Ed wasn't happy with him in the slightest, he clocks him before the pride stuff and would've done the same in Resenbool if they wern't at Trisha's grave, he also unrelentingly calls him a bastard. How fast were you watching user?

It's the most juvenile form of anger you can get. It's the same sort of anger a shonen character has for villain #8. It has no psychological depth.

>It's the most juvenile form of anger you can get
Funny that it's coming from a child then isn't it.Remember he's been seething over this since he was 5.

Juvenile in presentation, as in the writing of the show is juvenile.
Do you really think Ed's actions in the show reflect the fact he has been seething over it since he was 5?

>T. I didn't actually watch final episode

Thats not what fucking happened retard. Literally father had gotten shot by thousands of bullets, blasted by mustangs fire and attack from all sides. Greed had to sacrifice himself to cause father to lose out even more souls in his philosopher stone. Hell there is more shit i'm forgetting such as how they stopped all of amestris' souls from being captured.

Ed only started punching his ass when father was weakened by all the shit and was on deaths door. No it wasn't power of friendship. Father was already btfo and ed was basically used as the audiences insert to deliver him a ssatisfying being that we've all wanted to see for awhile.

>if the ending is happy it isn't good
go back to preschool.

Faggots posting these are at fault but so are the sites responsible for this garbage and google for indexing them. Searching for transparent images has become a pain now. Fuck them.

Yes because it's a childish anger. What did you expect him to do?Try to murder the guy?The reason he's so angry before the pride stuff is he realises his anger is misplaced because Hoenheim had a good reason for leaving but still wants to hate him because it's what he's been doing for the last 11 years and it makes him feel better about himself because then he can shift blame onto Hoenheim for the human transmutation,Trisha's death and Al's upbringing.

>Finished watching Brotherhood yersterday. Almost all characters are poorly written,
Buzz word sentence. If all you got is "i don't like how ed forgived his father" as an example then you really got nothing here.

Especially given the fact that ed forgave his father because hoenheim actually had a good reason for leaving and was on a mission to basically stop the humonculi and save the country. Of course he eventually moved on and forgave him.

>Yes because it's a childish anger.
It's not. That's not how children express anger of being abandoned.
