My girlfriend made me watch the animated version of Mo Dao Zu Shi a few months ago and it was really good despite the obvious fujobait. I have been following the manhwa since then and I fucking love it. I feel hype every time I see a new chapter in a way I haven't for my old shonen and seinen favorites for years. I'm straight but I'm past the point of caring if a neat romance is gay or not, and the political intrigue and supernatural investigation sides have me hooked.

My favorite character is Jiang Cheng. I don't get why people hate him. He's a badass with a strong core of values and complex motivations and loyalties. He's the best developed character in the whole thing other than Wei Wuxian, who has become my favorite antihero protagonist.

I'd never tell anyone this IRL. Even my girlfriend doesn't know I read the manhwa, she just thinks I watched the anime with her as a nice gesture.

It had its problems, but I enjoyed it enough to watch it twice. Plus it inspired me to create a multiverse of original hypothetical anime, some of which I've written out, so that alone is reason enough for me to like it.
