I finally got around to watching it. Atleast the original series (Plus directors cut) and TEOE.
Asuka is best girl. Of course. But I personally think that episodes 24 and 25 were a more fitting end to the story, rather than TEOE.
It felt like a conclusion, as the world was unraveling from the seems, atleast from Shinji's point of view in the latter episode. And it ended on a sour note, of Shinji's character arc ending, and of his understanding of the world expanding.
TEOE was still good though. Don't get me wrong, but I still prefer to watch the last two episodes.
Thanks for reading my blog. What else should I watch in the Eva series anyways? Skip straight to the manga? Watch all the rebuilds in order? What do next Zig Forums?

All the stuff about the ending is answered by going back to the original production notes and interviews.
The original ending before things liked delays and money got int he way was a combination of both EoE and the TV ending.
So some big fight with large monsters, the invasion of the base and then everyone dissolving into goo, only for Shinji to realize the truth about life he was missing.
The ending in the notes is only listed as Positive, so the question is still out on whether the exact TV ending would occur or a happier version of Shinji and Asuka on the beach.

EoE, I think suffers from Anno feeling angry that people didn't like the original TV ending and ramping up the drama.

I was always under the illusion that EoE was the original ending but was cut because of budget and time.
Though if it's like that then that explains the death messages.

We have a manga reading on this very board. Last volume I think is being posted today with links to all the other threads.
If you WANT you can watch the Rebuilds. They're.. fine I guess? the older I get the more I kind of accept them and for whatever fucking reason I start liking 3.0 more everytime I do only because it's different.

I'd personally say let the high of EoE ride out for like a week or something and then watch the Rebuilds if you want. The theories of what is happening in the Rebuilds is nothing if not interesting, just don't expect deep character development like in NGE, because that's mostly absent.

The original proposal notes are a little hard to read as they were poorly translated, but they come from a time where NGE was basically just Nadia and the Secret of Blue Water mixed with mecha deconstruction.
No SEELE, NERV is the be all and end all with Gendo leading the UN on.
All EVA come from ADAM, who was found under the Dad Sea (now vaporized).
But Rei still has her giant secret which means that Lilth is still in the plot.
Pretty much all episodes from 1-24 are exactly as is, except the order has been changed around. For example episode 14 not being a clip show but part of TV episode 16, which was going to be a multi-part arc.
Toji dies which was Anno plan but was forbidden to do to the show already pushing certain elements of broadcast standards.
25 and 26 are crazy from the notes, the 12 Apostolos (Apostles/despite still being named after Angels) come don from the moon and vaporize North America before having a final battle on the ruins of the Ark, which was the Geo-Front. Since the First Ancient Race was not a bunch of aliens but a prehuman civilization (just like Nadia).
