I'm a fervent anti-shipper who believes there should be no romance in this series, and I think the ending is underwhelming. I don’t think Wani wanted to please shipperfags. Off-screening their romance, the confirmation of their ships and most importantly offing the characters during the timeskip tells me that Wani just wanted to show future generations.
