I've only seen Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent and I'm not that impressed. DONT GIVE IN TO ESCAPISM is a good message but he doesn't seem that interested in depicting the societal push factors driving people to that, or crafting in-depth psychological portraits of the people trying to escape (illustrating psychosis in detail, seemingly his favorite thing, is not the same as that). The result is he comes off as a heavy-handed moralist with a lurid interest in mental breakdowns. It's almost weird how thin his actual moral vision is.
