The process of shortselling is to sell a borrowed asset back to the market, with the intent of purchasing it back at a lower price to fulfill your obligation to return the asset. When the price goes up to high, the persons account will have any assets liquidated to fulfill their obligations by purchasing the asset back from the market at a much higher price.
