If you ask people who listen to kpop how they got into it they almost always cite some korean guy they met in a game/chat recommending it once. Overall koreans have a better global internet presence than the japanese.
Outsode fo that koreans are also just better at learning english than the japanese, though the clear reasoning for this still eludes me.

Kpop and Kdrama are bad, but it's not as bad and awkward as Jpop/Jdrama.
Have you ever watched any recent Jdrama? They don't act like real people but act like 3D anime characters which is cringe as fuck.
The webtoons catch on because they are mostly free and easy to digest. Think of a dumb down version of shounen jump.
