Why isn't Fist of the North Star popular in America?

Hokuto no Ken has had a full DVD release for years now. It got re-released on an SD-BD not too long ago, too.

I tried reading the manga but every antagonist felt too much like villain of the week tier garbage and kenshiro can literally do fucking anything with his martial arts. I didn't get very far. maybe I'm too much of a zoomer

In addition to what other anons have stated (old, height of western popularity was in the Manga Entertainment days, etc.) FOTNS also really hasn't had a good new anime to draw zoomers in and the manga never got a good release overseas for some god forsaken reason. Additionally, by the time showing anime on US TV became a viable option in the early 00's, the show was much too old to draw in an audience for any network to take a chance on it. Not unlike Saint Seiya, really (though thankfully FOTNS never got a meme dub like that did)

There it was merchandise something like 20 years ago if not more, choices were kinda limited, cheap choices had either small overpriced gachas and trading figs, static figures were kinda null and mostly overshadowed by posable ones, there were different GK and busts but good luck fetching them and that's it

20 Years later Trigun only received a special treatment from Kotojoos, they only release Vash and Wolfwood, the other acceptable figs from Trigun are the other tradings made by Yamato which never released the missing characters.

It's not popular but at least people know about it. You can just ask an anime watcher and they'll know what it is. Most people don't watch/read it because most of the anime community, Zig Forums incluıded, only watches the newest shit. Not because they enjoy watching them, because they want to talk about them and feel like they belong to a community. You can't expect those people to watch an old series. Also it's a straight battle shounen with buff dudes, it's not "lmao so whacky and quirky" like jojo so ironicfags think it's cringe
Kinnikuman and Otokojuku are the real underappreciated shounen classics.

It would be super difficult to market it in america at this point. The anime is old and has way too many episodes for most people to quickly get into. Fist of the North Star is also essentially just half a manga as far as marketing is concerned. Even in Japan everything past Raoh gets mostly ignored for merch and ads. They make movies for every Raoh saga character and ignore everything else.

It's a pointlessly violent cartoon for simpletons. So yeah, you'd think it would be more popular in America huh?
