Let's talk about Bakemonogatari

Let's talk about Bakemonogatari

I'll start, the sense of color theory in every single scene is so fucking perfect

Shinbo is really a worthy successor to Dezaki.

>crediting it to Shinbo
Oishi was the mastermind behind the visuals of bake and his abscense in the other seasons is very obvious

This. Oishi is what makes Bake and Kizu such monumental masterpieces. I know to some viewing Kizu as anywhere as good as Bake is a contrarian, but I feel as though what Oishi brings to Kizu is just as fantastic as what he brings to Bake.

Oishi is truly the god of the project, Itamura just can't compare.

>implying color theory isn't closely tied to culture
>implying you associate the same thing to colors as japs do
>implying you're not a huge retard
sure, user. color theory. whatever you say.

Some of the best written dialogue in anime. Story isn't actually that great though.

Huge soundtrack full of memorable songs

For me, it's not just the visuals, the dialogue or the music, it's how their synergy together elevate them all to god tier. Add this to the eccentric characters and interesting mysteries and that's the full package

I have been considering watching this series for a while. I've heard that it panders a lot to certain fetishes. Is this true and what kinds of fetishes does it go for?

If you typed this horrendous post thinking you could convince people you knew what you were talking about then I'm sorry to disappoint, but you look like a massive fucking dipshit. When did I make any of these claims? Plus, why are you trying to pretend color theory isn't universal? Quit trying to sound like you're smart when you're very obviously retarded.

>it's how their synergy together elevate them all to god tier

Yeah totally, that's my favorite thing about Oishi as a director. I also love how the shot composition in Bake conveys the way Araragi is feeling, especially in every scene involving Senjougahara. The park scene in episode 3 in particular showcases this synergy.

It caters to pretty much every otaku fetish you can think of. Also toothbrushes heh.

I would say the only ones that are true masterpieces are Bake and Kizu though,

During the park scene it's almost like there's a second conversation going on from just the visuals. While the dialogue is happening the shots tell you so much about what's unspoken

You do know color theory is more than just the meaning behind the colors right? Because everything else about it is very universal

Oh for sure, it's stuff like this that keeps me going back to Bake years later. I have watched that park conversation between Senjougahara and Araragi so many fucking times and STILL find things I never picked up on with my previous viewing. Like the shots of Araragi and Senjougahara playing on the playground equipment conveying a sense of him struggling to understand her. Or this shot of Senjougahara's shadow merging with the shadows cast from the infrastructure, making her appear overpowering in comparison to Araragi. It's possibly I am just finding details where there are none, but man, this entire show is ripe with material to analyze.

I'm talking in regards to what colors look visually pleasing together, yeah. Not the meaning behind the colors.

Oops, my bad I thought you were responding to me. I'm not the user you responded to.

I was always under the impression that was universal, why wouldnt it be? I dont really see how different cultures can mean different colors compliment eachother differently

Yeah I agree with you. I'm not the user you were originally responding to, brain went full retard and I thought you were responding to my post.

^^^This one.

How do you guys watch this show? Do you pause at every text frame? Am I supposed to read them to understand the plot? It's getting tedious to pause, seek and replay everytime

The text frames are mostly minor gags, mood setters and little asides. You can let them pass by without missing anything, and maybe rewind to them later for a few giggles if you feel like it.

The text frames are pretty important in that they give insight onto how the characters are feeling, not necessarily the plot, though it does delve into direct quotes from the novel on occasion. If you want to get every single thing packed into the show, then it requires multiple rewatches.

They're not necessary, you can get by fine without pausing but they just add some details and inner monologuing from Araragi which some people enjoy

All this to say, yeah don't worry too much about it on your first watch. Not a big deal if you don't read every single one.

Oh, well glad we can come together and both laugh at a retard trying to sound smart

Amen to that brother lol

Bake's not a good adaptation of the source material to begin with, don't worry about understanding the plot since even Shaft didn't really care and just copy-pasted random chunks of the LNs with little rhyme or reason.

Am currently reading bake, this is untrue

It's not that they didn't care, they just blatantly had biases towards certain characters which later backfired as said characters aren't as relevant as the ones they sidelined.

Bake is a pretty damn good adaptation of the source material, what makes you think otherwise?

If you've read Bake there's no way you haven't noticed what I'm talking about, because they very literally did just copy-paste random chunks of the LNs with little rhyme or reason and didn't actually try to adapt things properly to an animated format. Though I guess a lot of Bake was barely animated to begin with, Shaft thought it was imperative to cut loads of dialog out for almost every character to make space for scenery slideshows.

They haven't cut out anything important, mostly just further examples of characterization and some of Araragis narration. The main thing I noticed is just that the novels tend to spell things out for you more. For example Araragi constantly laments on the fact that "Senjougahara spent two years isolated" and connects that to her current personality, whereas in the anime it's not brought up as often and is more implied.

Most of the show is actually pretty badly animated, even after the BD fixes. People post a lot of pretty still screenshots but animation-wise it's always just the same few scenes cherry-picked for a reason. Nisemonogatari's probably the nicest part of the series visually (some people will say Kizumonogatari too I guess, which I really disliked but that's a topic of it's own)
