LAY YOUR HEART DOWN
is the remake as good as the original?[/spoiler[

Yes it is (so far) and in some areas it does a better job than the original (battle scenes and emotional moments).
Yang's character feels a lot more flat in the remake compared to the original
Sieg looks like an otome game character instead of like a baby face uglie which is probably an improvement.
A lot of stuff is trimmed down so you don't need to wait until episode 20 for it to get good.
If you've seen the original then there's probably no point in watching the remake but for newplebs it's probably going to be easier to pick up the remake.
I don't see that, i think both do a good job with characters (though i like some of the moments in the remake more like Yang's reaction to Jessica's death), the only problem i had with remake was the pacing which a bit too fast in some moments.
Don't like the character design, but i guess that varies
They watered it down, trimmed a good amount of details and it doesn't feel that deep nor compelling like the original.
Democracy is shit.
Alcohol is man's friend.
No.
other than Iserhlohn Fortress details, what did they trimmed?
No but it's not the disastrous kind of remake that people wanted so they could make fun of it
Why would I watch the remake when I can watch the original?
I don't like the new art style and the usage of CG for the space fighting scenes. It ruins the artistic qualities that the original had.
why the fuck is reinhardt so bogged
Not that guy, but I think it's the VA performance is what makes the difference. Yang's old actor makes him feel like an actual awkward goof, Suzumura's Yang seems like a normal, well-adjusted dude. I feel similiarly about Miyano's Reinhard too.
I know it sounds pretentious as fuck but feel like Horikawa and Tomiyama's performances elevated the characters above what was just written in the script, in the new series they just execute it. It's funny because I think Miyano is excellent, but it's like he's not even trying here. Maybe it's a matter of getting different/more direction from producers, idk.
>the artistic qualities that the original had
>not posting a key frame
you trolling right user
The original didn't have an infinite budget, but when they put it to use boy was it good.
>It ruins the artistic qualities that the original had.
C'mon the original is great, but the strong point really wasn't artstyle or animation.
People shit on the art, but the character design is some of the best in my opinion. Reinhard's long hair look is one of my favorite male character designs of all time.
I agree and disagree, i too think the old voice actors were better but in a lot of scenes i felt they didn't portray emotions very well, compare Kircheis's death for example, Reinhard voice acting in the remake works a lot better than in the original.
oh i'm not shitting on the art, i like the character design but i'm just saying the animation really isn't the original strong point.
The animation is stilted; I don't think anyone in there right mind would argue to the contrary, but I think the hand painted backgrounds have a soul that isn't captured in the remake, and it's also why anime of this era will still capture my eye even if they aren't as flashy as modern anime.
DNT is just an alternative that doesn't cover as much material as OVA did. I guess you should watch if you want a modern show, but that's it. For my taste it spends too much time repeating itself and character designs are very hit or miss.
it's mind blowing to me how varied characters look while still wearing military uniforms and designs not going into outlandish to make them stand out. logh is a rare case of character designer actually earning their paycheck.
DNT is not kino for it has no Dvorak's 9th Symphony
Reminder that not a SINGLE named character shares the same hairstyle in "realistic" hairstyles for a military setting.
I can understand your point but i think the remake still did a great job with scenery and the design of the world, even the CG was decent
I think both have their pros and cons. The old series had quite a few stylistic inconsistencies in the early episodes (earth kinda looks like the 90's, 30 episodes later it's futuristic) and could be a drag at times, while the remake sometimes progresses rather fast so you can't let the drama and events sink in.
I do like most of the usage of cg in the remake, so far they've only made the mistake of using cg for characters once, really hope they won't do it again. Otherwise it's used for the spaceships and they rendered it at a smooth fps instead of retards and rendering it at a choppy fps.
I also like how they made the ships looks more unique and easier to differentiate.
They tried to retain most of the original looks, with the longer faces and more defined facial characteristics instead of generic anime face.
At the moment I like em both
>43% death rate in that pic
M8, the ships were more different in the OVA. The new fleets looks like some copy and paste job. In the old you could clearly see different ship classes fulfilling different roles.
Also ships in the OVA were more logical with the bridge deep inside the ship with monitors as "windows" instead of the bridge being outside.
haven't seen any of the OVA's, only the old and new series. Where should I start for the OVA's? Are they worth watching?
damn almost as much as trannies
Really depends on how much you liked the series as a whole. I think it was all prequels, like how Reinhard and Kircheis got their first ranks, etc. They're not necessary but I enjoyed watching them. Even found my picture for it
>The new fleets looks like some copy and paste job.
You're blind
M8, the OG series is the OVA. You are thinking of the Gaidens. They are worth watching. Basically the story of Reinhard's rise through the ranks (with the exception of Lt. Commander for some reason) and Yang being a scrub being kicked upwards.
At the very least watch the A Hundred Billion Stars, a Hundred Billion Lights. That one is the most KINO one.
cool stuff, thanks man
thanks for clearing that up
BITTEN BITTEN Deep down, I just came here to post this. BITTEN
BITTEN
I hope they keep adapting and don't stop at remaking season 1, i really want to see Kaji Yuki voice acting when Yang dies.
>mfw OVA was so KINO, Yang's seiyuu died one week after recording Yang's last line.
