This show is so god damn good that even this motherfucker gets an arc where he goes from being a hot-headed jerk to being a legit good pilot who listens to his forward and is the best shot in the department.
Can we please talk about how good Patlabor is?
Quality speaks for itself and Zig Forums doesn't listen, but sure.
I always wonder if anime could get away with being as critical of Japanese foreign policy like Patlabor 2 was, without being NIPPON BANZAI ultranationalist shit.
People like to hate on Patlabor 2 because it doesn't have much action and has a serious lack of Noa Izumi. But in my opinion, it's fucking incredible. WXIII is trash, however.
I got chills when he saluted Kanuka.
What a wonderful growth.
The episode where he gets caught in the middle of Kumagami and Kanuka's pissing contest is priceless. Bonus points for Gotoh drunk-dialing Shinobu.
It had some extremely kino moments.

What was your favorite episode or episodes? Mine was the two part Christmas story that provided a needed sense of humanity to the badass super cop woman and explored the feelings and fears of the families of those who serve in the armed forces or other dangerous life risking jobs.
This is a tough. Noa's second fight with Bud is one of the most badass things I've ever seen. The best SoL eps are the aforementioned R&R trip with Kanuka and Kumagami as well as Gotoh and Shinobu getting stuck at a hotel together. You?
I never actually watched past the first OVA because the drop in quality from that to the TV series was so incredibly drastic.
>forgotten anime
Patlabor anime is okay, the manga is trash tho, insanely wordy almost to the level of Detective Conan's mystery solving part
wrong move
You didn't even watch any of the movies? Patlabor the Movie is the peak of the series to me and Patlabor 2 is very different but amazing for its own reasons
This was pretty good. So was the one where noa had to take everyone's take out order.
I liked the movie for what it was, though it was a radical departure from the more lighthearted comedy of the TV series. I watched the TV first, so it had naturally become the first thing that's associated with Patlabor name in my mind.
On a different note, it took me a long time to realize that the final inept twist in Eden of the East was an attempt to copy the plot of second Patlabor movie. An orchestrated missile strike on Tokyo that gives the military an excuse to take over the government in order to "save the country".
Based OP. Patlabor is purely magical. Ota a boss chad.
>the ep where he gets dumped by that woman but takes it like a man, standing there in the falling snow, never fails to deliver the feels
Yeah I don't get it. I love Noa, I love the action of the franchise overall but I also love 2. News alert: you can actually explore different directions within a franchise.
I don't know user. It seems like people tend to love Patlabor 2 a lot more now over the years. But it is the opposite of me as someone who loved it the first time watching it. I started to appreciate the first film a bunch in comparison because in a sense, the first film has more coherent critics of Japanese society yet didn't abandon the playful but serious spirit of Patlabor series making it the best one. at least in my opinion.
>Ito wrote all the serious multi-part episodes and the movies
>Oshii exclusively wrote comedic SoL and wacky adventure episodes
And yet Oshii gets all the shit for allegedly being a pretentious dullard.
Didn't Oshii direct Urusei Yatsura?
Yep. He's actually great when it comes to more comedic part of Patlabor. The drunk team episode is probably my favourite episode in the series.
I really have to wonder who Oshii's favorite characters were, beside the mechanics obviously.
Someone said he self-inserted as shinobu
yea its one of the greatest franchises ever stfu now delete the thread
What's the best order to watch in? I was thinking OVA - movies - TV show. The TV show's a different continuity, right?
Yes thats how I did it. Remember the TV Show has an OVA after it as well
Cool cool
Loving these comfy backgrounds.
I started with the Early Days OVA then watched the first two movies. Not sure if I'll watch the TV timeline stuff.
Keep in mind that Early Days is the OVA that goes with the movies. The New Files goes after the TV series.
The final episode of OVA 2 is so satisfying, but man does it hurt to see the series end.
