Beta sanderson vs Chad togashi

Imagine creating entire sagas of fantasy and all the power systems are not half as good as the Nen

Sanderson has never written a character as 1/8th as compelling as Meruem

Never really got the fuss about Nen but maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

Basically you can think of any power you want and it'll fit into one of the five categories Togashi thought up. Then you make up a condition to use your power depending on how OP it is.

Seems pretty simple, if effective. Isn't that basically Stands with no psychic dudes ?

I think the way Sanderson writes dialogue can lend a YA feel to his work. This was especially true of Mistborn. The characters had a very direct way of speaking to each other which was also how they spoke with nobles and enemies. It makes sense for a crew to be familiar and insulting with each other, but when they scarcely change their tone in negotiations or even when they are operating in a different socio-economic strata it loses some authenticity.

I stopped reading Well of Ascension partway through since the weak dialogue was frustrating. In contrast Stormlight and Warbreaker didn’t have this problem.

How does he do it? How can one man be so based?

I don't know what you're talking about.
Most of the dialogue in stormlight is absolutely cringe inducing.

well you can't choose your stand but you can choose what nen ability you want to have, no matter how autistic it is.

Nen is a manifestation of your spirit/soul/feelings or whatever and its potency is determined by talent, aura output, how many limitations you consciously and unconsciouly put on it (more strict limitations = stronger power) and what you are willing to sacrifice (More/intenser sacrifice, the stronger the power becomes)

Someone with better editing skills than me needs to edit in Gotouge sneaking out the back desu

He made a series that did well when the company needed it and decided not to even finish it.
Then he said he'd make a new hit series and named his price.

yeah but what about Steven Erikson?

Nen is nonsense though and even Elantris or Warbreaker shit on it from great heights.

Honestly wish the industry would have collapsed after all the big titles of the early 90s finished

Togashi has shit worldbuilding

I feel like nen must've initially had a part where you signed a contract with some powerful being which got scrapped somewhere along the way. The limitation aspect of nen make no sense without something like that. Why would a nen attack suddenly be stronger by limiting who can be harmed by it?

I finished the entirety of Wheel of Time as someone not really into books but I just can't make it past ten chapters of Stormlight Archive. I thought it was meant to be amazing?

He is a god among men and I really wish he would finish the kharlanas trilogy

I like the scope and ambition of Sanderson's novels but a lot of his characters feel very bland and one dimensional.

>I finished the entirety of Wheel of Time
You have shit taste user, it happens.

I've only read all of the stormlight novels and the first mistborn. Mistborn was vastly inferior.

It is a double edge sword. It makes you stronger but at what cost? A rookie hunter can kill some of the most elite hunters, but at the cost of reducing his strength against everyone.

If you read the WOT then you should have no problems with sanderson
Straighten your two rivers woolen skirt and pull your braid

>You have shit taste user, it happens.
what's wrong with finishing WoT?

Nen is not a particularly interesting or good power system.
You can say whatever you want about Nen types and restrictions but it's effectively just random magical powers because you Togashi just makes up whatever he wants, there's no actual restrictions built in, you can have whatever power you want, even without going Specialist.

i know we're on Zig Forums but being this contrarian is not healthy.

I don't get all this giant wankfest about nen, is pretty much a magic system that can do anything and the only difference between this and literal magic is the limitations bullshit that makes Togashi pull unlimited power out of his ass for any character he wants. It's basically a cookie-cutter RPG magic system transmigrated to Manga.

>takes a year or two off
>updates what may be his new magnum opus arc
>hunterCHADs theorise and explore the plot to it's necessary depth just in time for GODashi to release a new set of chapters
he can't keep getting away with it, he's too based.

Speaking of, Stands also aren't a very interesting power system, because it's not much of a power system at all, just a collection of powers, there's no system behind it.

I love both. Fight me faggots. Sanderson has rules to his magic while Togashi has "rules" after the fact and can manipulate within them.

This. Stands are just "do-whatever-you-want" plot device machines under the guise of only having one ability.

>I feel like nen must've initially had a part where you signed a contract with some powerful being which got scrapped somewhere along the way.
It's literally just domains and other powers Togashi had in YYH but with a different coat of paint.
>Why would a nen attack suddenly be stronger by limiting who can be harmed by it?
Same reason why forcing water through a smaller aperture makes the resulting stream shoot further. The more you focus your efforts the greater the outcome. Likewise, Nen is psychic force, so the stronger you feel about something the greater your return on it (with respect to your own potential)

Seeing your post, I understand there's clearly a correlation between being one of these spics from the DBZ containment thread and liking Hunter x Hunter
>GODwhatever
>CHADthis CHADthat
>ridiculous copypastas
>wanking to your literal faction
Jesus you people are the worst.

>wan piss rage
